One week had passed since the party. Rumors circulated of mine and Lucas's "makeout session", at least, according to Rose. I didn't really care either way, let these idiotic teenagers think what they want, none of this will matter in a couple of years.
As you're probably guessing, dance practice persisted, though we were working on our main routine. The football players wouldn't be involved until school started. Which happened to be the next day. Ugh, school. The only thing keeping me going on that dreaded Sunday was that the entire group was getting together at Rosie's Place.
Rosie's Place was a small diner in the middle of town that was owned by Rose's parents. It had been our hangout for as long as I could remember. The inside was bright and not really my style, but I still felt at home as soon as I entered those doors. It was so open and simple and there were splashes of blue all over the place. It fit Rose and her parents so much it was crazy. There was also an apartment above the diner where we had had many sleepovers through the years. It was small, but enough for us to hold movie nights, binge out, and have fun.
This is what I imagine it looking like :)
When I walked in, the first thing I spotted was Ben, sitting at the counter. He was stuffing his face in a cupcake, his face covered in icing. Charlie sat beside him, looking just as messy. They were both laughing at one another as they wiped the icing off their faces and onto each other. They looked like a couple of toddlers. Mrs. Watson, Rose's mother, stood behind the counter, giggling quietly to herself. She had always been a hopeless romantic, and I think part of her had always wanted Charlie and Ben to be together. A lot of people did, but I knew both of them better than that.
As summer came to an end, so did Charlie's relationship with Violet, her girfriend of one year. I was pretty sad about it, since they had always been so happy together, but Charlie said she felt much better without Violet, and Charlie always knew what she was doing when it came to relationships.
Ben was always on the verge of a relationship, but never in one. I had to admit, he was very handsome, I didn't blame girls for fawning over him. Yet, I almost wanted to write a big sign on his shirt telling girls to stay away. I hated to see him break their hearts, or, occasionally for them to break his.
As I walked up to the counter, they both swiveled on their stools, staring at me. They grinned wildly, which made me roll my eyes. They both looked at one another and nodded. Without hesitation, Ben raced over to me wrapping his strong arms around me while Charlie took another cupcake from the counter and began walking towards me, an evil look in her eyes and a smile on her face. I squirmed, but it was no use. Before I knew it, icing had coated my face, clothes, and somehow, some had ended up in my hair. We were left sitting at the counter, laughing our asses off, but we all stopped when we heard a familiar shrill voice squeal behind us.
"What are you guys doing?!" Rose asked as we all turned to face her. Ben smiled sheepishly and Charlie ran her fingers through her hair nervously. I walked right over to Rose and put my arm around her, another shriek escaped her lips as she attempted to get away from me. She hated being dirty in any way, so pink icing was a definite no, but my cares had seemed to melt away in that moment.
