LUCAS
The whole drive over, I worried about Hazel. She hardly spoke, except to clear up some directions. She seemed really close to her little sister. I had only spoken to her once, when she called me the night I spent the night at Hazel's, but she seemed super sweet. Grayson also talked about her all time, as though he were some father-figure or something to her. It made me laugh to hear him announce how well she did on a test, or how many points she scored in volleyball.
By the time we had reached the house, I was fuming. Thinking about how much Hazel and Gray cared about her made me want to protect her too. Whoever made her cry was going down. I stormed up to the door, growing impatient as Hazel stumbled out of the truck and over to me. I pounded on the door and after what felt like an eternity of waiting, some little piece of shit opened the door. He looked so unconcerned, I wanted to slap him across the face. I partially blamed my irritability off the fact that Noah was in town, bringing me my own personal hell.
"We're here to pick up Clover." Hazel said loudly.
"Go ahead, she's in the bathroom."
Hazel walked down the hallway slowly, eyeing down the other ten kids that sat on the couches in front of me. My eyes shot down to the kid in front of me. I remembered Hazel talking about this party back at Gray's place. She said it was at Clover's boyfriend Will's house. He must have been the one to hurt her- considering he looked unconcerned about his upset girlfriend, crying down the hall.
"What the fuck did you do?" I growled, crossing my arms.
"Nothing, she just lost it and ran into the bathroom." He paused, as though considering something deeply before he opened his mouth once again. "She's just as crazy as her mom." He sighed. I heard a few snickers coming from behind him.
"What did you just say?" My patience was wearing thin by now.
"Well, you know, right? About how fucked up her mom is?"
"No, enlighten me." I had hoped my use of higher-level vocabulary would ward him off. Unfortunately, he seemed completely unaffected.
"Listen, punk," I said, picking him up by his shirt, "whatever the fuck you did, it better be undone within the next minute." My voice came out low and intimidating. The kids behind us gasped as the boy began to sweat.
"I-It was just screenshots! I swear!" He cried. I dropped him, making him lose his balance and fall to the floor.
"When she comes out here, you're going to give her your phone, and she'll delete anything she wants to. You will not protest. You will not spread rumors. You will not speak a word of this, understood?"
"Y-Yes, sir." He said as he shakily rose to his feet.
"And you know what? I'm having some fun with this, hell, I could make you do anything I want." I laughed evily. "You look like a stong guy, you play football?"
"Yes."
"Hmmmm... and you're wanting to play in high school, I assume."
"Yeah. S-Sir."
"Well, I'm the current captain. One snap of my fingers, and my team will make your life a living hell. You want that, William?"
"No, sir!"
"Then until then, you'll do everything I say. Oooh, and Hazel and Clover- you have to do everything they say too."
"But-"
"I'm thinking you'll start with washing mine and Hazel's cars." I smiled. He groaned.
"But let's not forget about your other guests, here! Since you were all involved, you'll each have to do anything Clover tells you to for the rest of the year. You will worship the ground she walks on, or I'll send my team to find each and everyone of you." I scanned their faces, noting the fear in their eyes.
After a few more minutes in silence, Hazel and Clover exited the bathroom. Both their faces were red and their eyes were misty. Will held his phone out to Clover, confusion on her face.
"You can go in and delete anything you want off his phone. This incident will never be spoken of again. Also, every person in this room is at your beck and call for the rest of this year." I said, eyeing down each and every one of them. Clover smiled slightly and took the phone from Will's hand. She deleted almost everything on his phone, even if it was unrelated to their issue, and I applauded her for that. We left the party, heads held high.
On the ride home, it was quiet. Clover was nuzzled into Hazel's side, eyes closed. When we arrived back at their house, Clover went in, but Hazel remained in the truck. She turned to me.
"Thank you, for everything you did tonight."
"Of course. If she matters to you, she matters to me." I smiled at her.
She leaned in slowly, making me freeze as she placed a kiss on my cheek. By now, she was leaning on her knees in the middle seat. She looked at me for a brief moment before wrapping her arms around my neck. I hesitated, but soon had my arms around her waist. I felt a few tears falling onto the back of my shirt and pulled her tighter to me. She nuzzled into me more and that was the way we remained for a couple of minutes. She pulled away all too soon, wished me a good night, and disappeared into her house.
I sat in her driveway for a long time, just thinking. Never in my life had I felt the way I did around Hazel. The only reason I had gone to that bonfire was because I knew just seeing her would make me feel so much better. I smiled to myself, I liked Hazel Griffin.
Hopefully that was a bit better than last chapter! I love you guys! Please vote and comment!!
