That alarm went off too damn soon. I had decided to give up. There was no point in trying to impress anymore. Lucas had probably told everyone by now.
I didn't even bother to check my phone, I knew I'd only feel worse.
I lumbered out of bed, knocking on Clover's door. When she didn't answer, I pushed the door open. To my surprise, she was gone. I shrugged and continued on to the bathroom. I decided makeup was too much work. I didn't even brush my hair, I simply brushed my teeth and headed back into my room.
I figured my outfit could reflect my mood.
When I came downstairs, I was shocked once again to find neither Dad or Clover in the kitchen. On the counter, Dad had written a note, "Clo and I went to Rosie's for breakfast. Didn't want to wake you. -Dad" I sighed as I pulled down my travel mug from the cabinet and began to make my coffee. I took a few bites from an apple before realizing I wasn't hungry. I tossed the apple into the fridge, knowing it would probably be gross in like an hour anyways.
Kendall was waiting for me in the car when I got outside. I sat down and started the car, not even looking at her.
"Hey." She whispered.
"Hey."
"I tried calling and texting. I even came over a couple of times."
"I know. I just- I just wasn't feeling well."
"Oh."
When we got to school, I was expecting everyone to stare at me, but they didn't. I didn't feel like talking to anyone so I said goodbye to Kendall and went to my first class. Lucas was sitting in the room alone. I started to turn, but he rushed up and grabbed my wrist. I turned halfay to him.
"Please, just talk to me, Hazel."
"I don't have anything to say."
"Kendall said you didn't leave your house the entire break."
"Why would that matter to you?"
"Because... I really like you, Hazel. More than anyone I've ever met." I closed my eyes and turned back towards the door. I was trying my best not to cry.
"Well, sorry, but the feeling isn't mutual." I cringed. Suddenly, he let go of my hand.
"Oh... okay." He said quietly. With that, I walked away. I didn't know what to do so I went to the girl's bathroom and started dialing my mom.
"Honey? You know it's four in the morning here, right?"
"Yeah. Sorry, I'll go."
"Nope, I'm up now. What's wrong?"
"I just wanted to see how you were doing." The tears fell silently down my face.
"Everything's going great here! The place I'm at is so beautiful you'll have to come see me soon! My room is so nice and I have it all to myself. There's even a pool! I think Clover would have a lot of fun too!"
"I'm really happy for you, Mama. But the bell's about to ring. I gotta go!"
"Okay, bye baby! Love you!"
"Love you too." The phone went silent, and I crumbled up onto the floor.

LUCAS POV
Two weeks. It had been two entire weeks of radio silence from Hazel. I only hoped she was okay. For the last two weeks, I couln't get it out of my head. She looked to embarrassed and sad seeing me standing there. It made me wonder, how long had she been living like that? I tossed and turned all night, every night, thinking about her. I had never thought of a girl for more than a day, but Hazel was different.
I waited for her that first morning of school. I woke up earlier than usual so that I could see her. Just as I expected, she walked in twenty minutes before class started. She turned as soon as she saw me, but I ran to her and grabbed her wrist.
"Please, just talk to me, Hazel."
"I don't have anything to say."
"Kendall said you didn't leave your house the entire break."
"Why would that matter to you?"
"Because... I really like you, Hazel. More than anyone I've ever met." I smiled a bit.
"Well, sorry, but the feeling isn't mutual." It was like everything froze, I dropped her hand.
"Oh... okay." I whispered.
That was it, she left. My mind was swirling. She didn't like me back. She proably hates me at this point.
She never showed up to class that day. I guess I scared her off. I hope she's okay.
