Chapter 25 Admitting the Truth

When Jonathan had told Luke, Blue, and Dially about Nate being Evan it was completely hard to believe. The kid he had lost to Gina over something so stupid had come back to him. Of course it sounded completely insane but it had happened. It was a weird way how life worked. One minute you lose your son and the next he comes back as a teenager under a different name.

"Why do you think he called himself Nate," Luke had asked him.

"I don't know to be honest we never really talked much before finding out," Jonathan answered rubbing the back of his head.

"But he was shot how could his mother let this happen," Blue said as she brought 4 mugs.

"I'm gonna find the man who shot him and shot him myself," Dially said.

"Don't get arrested for murder sweetie," Blue said making Dially pout.

"There's so many question I wanna ask him but I feel like it's inappropriate to do so," Jonathan said.

"You deserve to know what happened to him. You did save him after all," Luke said which earned him a smack from Blue.

"That is very inconsiderate of you," Blue said.

"Imma have to agree with Luke on this. The only way to know is to ask him maybe start off by telling him how you were when you lost him," Dially suggested.

So that night when Nate was just put to rest. Jonathan was watching Evan play COD 26 or whatever. Evan knee Jonathan was watching him from the distance. It was something he noticed when they had found out he was the missing kid.

"It's rude to stare you know," Evan asked as he turned off the game.

"As if you're the one to say you've been staring at me too," Jonathan retorted.

"Alright I know you have questions," Evan said motioning towards the couch.

"But are you willing to answer them," Jonathan said sitting.

"Not really but I know you want them," Evan said.

"If you want we can go back and forth asking questions," Jonathan suggested.

"Alright I'll go first what made you fall in love with... her," Evan asked.

"Honestly she was the sweetest person in the world. She had such a kindness to her that made me fall deeply in love," Jonathan said thinking back to the old her.

"Some bitch she turned out to be," Evan mumbled.

"How was it like living with her," Jonathan asked softly.

Evan knew the question was about to come up. He wasn't sure if he really wanted to answer him. But he took a deep breath and said;

"Hell it was hell."

"She...," Evan started, "never really cared about me. Of course when we were out in public you could hardly ever tell, but behind closed doors she would toss me to the side and drink. I think she drank because to forget about... her husband. But over all I say it was well."

"Jon... this question thing was nice but I'd rather tell you everything," Evan said.

"Take you're time," Jonathan said.

"Honestly I could do fine with her bullshit it's the dick of a father I was stuck with. He would beat me everyday. He was always drunk and muttered something about being raised as his son. I never really thought about it until all of this had happened. Maybe he was jealous of you; Nate always did tell me she had pictures of a strange man in her room. But he was also hardly ever home. But sometimes those days she would beat me crying about an ex or some shit. Around the second grade I joined a gang. It was me and a friend of mine. We stole, we smoked, we drank, the only thing we didn't do was fuck. When Nate was taken away by the Social Security I had to run away. In the end I was shot left for dead by my friend's cousin. Then you found me," Evan said letting out a shaky breath.

"I... when I had lost you I almost killed myself," Jonathan said.

"Really," Evan said in shock.

"You were the light of my life. I had let someone who had abandon you take you away from me. I pushed back my friendships and I turned away from everyone. Luke has managed to stop me and he's been taking care of me since. I recently bought the place when I found you," Jonathan said.

"Why did you save me then," Evan asked.

"Honestly even though I didn't know you then. I felt a connection between us. I had to save you and I'm glad I did," Jonathan said.

"I....," Evan said.

"It's okay if you don't wanna call me dad. It's been 12 years I don't think I have that right anymore," Jonathan said.

"The memories feels so fresh and yet it feels like another life I didn't have.... but I do love you... dad," Evan said.

Jonathan pulled him into a hug and Evan clung back tightly. He let out a shaky breath and relished in the warmth. It may be a while until this sets in but he could get used to it.

Huh neat. I have the next chapter written but I'll wait until I have an extra chapter written. It'll most likely be that way until the end of the book. I'm also sad to say that the end is coming near. I say about 8-9 more chapters.

I love how you guys get the hints. It was honestly my proudest moment when I had first revealed it in the first book. Giving you a snippet of what is actually going on.

Just thank you 💛
