Chapter 21 Evaluation
To say Jonathan was nervous was an understatement; he was down right terrified about what was about to happen. He had gotten a letter saying that his evaluation was on August 16th so that left two months to prepare for everything. They had given him a list of everything that was required for adoption. He had to make sure everything was baby proof, if we was considering in adopting a child younger then 5.
But since he was looking for someone a bit older he had to make sure there was adequate room for the child to play. That he had a suitable room and enough space for any belongings towards the child. He had to make a cook book of healthy foods and provide healthy snacks. He needed to be financially stable and able to budget around a new child.
He didn't need to worry about being financially stable. His job at the construction site pays him extremely well. He could send the kid off to college if he wanted to. He didn't even need to make a mortgage for the home since he didn't need to spend his money when he was staying with Luke. But still he spent the next two months completing the list along with Nate's help.
Jonathan was glad he managed to clear the misunderstanding with the kid. Even though he had found him half dead he doesn't regret taking him to Blue to save his life. He also talked it over with Nate. If he was here during the evaluation then he would say his parents had gone overseas on a trip and left him in the care of Jonathan. He even made Dially write fake letters to even prove his theory.
But when the day came he already wanted to kick them out. Well at least one of them out. Nate was in his room when they had come in. It was two women; one in her late 40s while the other in her mid 20s.
"Good morning Mister Jonathan Dennis we are our evaluators I'm Angie Mace and this is my trainee Marie Lambart," the older women had said.
"It's good to meet you Mrs. Mace and Ms. Lambart," Jonathan said shaking their hands.
"Aren't you the guy who lost his son in court," Maria blurted out.
"Marie," Angie has scolded.
"It's alright Miss he technically wasn't my son so guardian had transferred over to the biological mother," Jonathan said as she had wrote them down.
"Alright we'll look over the place and then we'll ask you some questions," Angie stated as they walked around the place.
"Oh is the evaluation today," Nate said when he entered the room.
"Oh who's this; we didn't see that you had a kid in your profile," Marie said.
"I'm taking care of him for a while. His parents had to go out of country and Nate wanted to finish school so I'm taking care of him," Jonathan said.
"I'll be over at Tyler's then," Nate said.
"Alright have Luke drop you off," Jonathan said as Nate left the house.
"Alright then everything seems in check so we'll ask you some questions. May we sit at this table," Angie said.
"Of course," Jonathan said as the two sat down.
"We were checking your background and it seems you've only had one relationship," Marie said.
"Yes I've only had one relationship," Jonathan said.
"We also looked into the backgrounds of your friends and family and we believe you would trust them with your life," Angie said.
"Yes I would," Jonathan said.
"So you've signed with us to get a child domestically meaning getting a child from inside the US," Angie said.
"But I don't know if your qualified to become an adoptive parent," Marie said.
"Please explain this to me," Jonathan said.
"When you had a child in your care you were literally killing him. He was sick and you didn't take him to a doctor; you lived in a rundown apartment which was not suitable for the child in your care," Marie said.
"Marie," Angie said shocked.
"If you read the case in detail you would have found that the mother had left me with nothing. She took everything and I had to sell my home just to go on. I couldn't provide anything for the child because I was broke. But my friends managed to do a solid for me and help me get back on my feet and I still try to pay them back for everything they've done for me," Jonathan said feeling a bit agitated.
"Still shows that you lost your child," Marie grumbled.
"I hope you don't mind we finish this meet up on the phone," Jonathan said turning towards Angie.
"No need sorry for my trainee I will talk to her about what she had said," Angie said making Marie flinch.
"It was a pleasure to meet you," Jonathan said shaking her hand.
Marie held her hand out but Jonathan went to open the door.
"I'll send an email on potential dates to meet some kids," Angie said.
"I'll be awaiting them patiently," Jonathan said as the two left the room.
"Nate, Tyler you can come out," Jonathan said.
"I swear its dad sense of something," Tyler said as him and Nate popped out from the room.
"I'm sorry Jon," Nate said rubbing the back of his head.
"It's alright it's just a past that'll still haunt me," Jonathan said going towards his room.
"You can do whatever you want I'll be in my room," Jonathan said leaving the two.
"This is why we never bring up his past," Tyler had said to Evan when Jonathan had disappeared.
"Yeah..."
Jonathan grabbed a picture of Evan when he was 5. It was only the day before the court case but it was one of the last pictures he had of him. Oh how he could turn back time and find a way to keep him.
Doesn't Evan look young in this pic^ it's one of the main reason why I started this series. Dad Jonathan is the best
With lots of love 💛
