Some days were just harder than others.
Some days you felt great, like the whole world was yours. You laughed. You smiled. You felt joy. You felt happy.
Then there were days like today.
You couldn't stop the tears. Every little thing made you cry. Every little thing set you off. Your anxiety kicked in. It triggered your depression. And now you couldn't get out of bed.
There was no joy.
There was no happiness.
You simply felt numb.
Curled up under the warm blankets, your body ached from crying. You weren't sure you had anymore tears. You felt cried out.
You felt the bed dip behind you, but you didn't care. A warm arm draped over your side, tracing your curves. Gentle, soft. Oh so sweetly. Yes, he loved you. Adored you.
And if anyone understood you, it was James Barnes.
He had days of his own. And you'd do the same. Hold him until his pain subsided. Now here he was, his lips pressed against your head. He knew not to speak. At least until you were ready.
Yes, he certainly understood you.
"Baby...," he said softly after awhile and you stirred, turning your head to meet his eyes. Impossibly blue. So emotional. You could see the love. It made your heart beat a little faster.
"I've got you," he went on, kissing you gently, not wanting to move to fast or do anything you weren't ready for. "I'm here, babydoll. Here just to hold you close."
He meant what he said, you rolled over, your face pressed against his chest. He was warm, comfortable. His strong arms encased you. Making you feel safe, protected. He traced patterns over your back and shoulder, his steady breathing lulled you.
He was your safe place.
"Thank you...," you whispered, looking up to meet his eyes and he smiled, kissing you again. Hours you'd laid in his arms, letting his presence wash over you. Calm the bad thoughts. The ones that screamed inside your head.
"I told ya," he smiled, pulling you back to him, refusing to let you go. "I got you. And I won't let anything hurt you. You're my girl...," he whispered and you smiled. Genuinely smiled for the first time in hours.
He brought you back from the darkness. Because that's what he did. Like a bright beacon. That was your Bucky. He loved you through everything. He saw your weaknesses and still worshiped the ground you walked on.
And he'd be there the next time.
Just to hold you close.
