Danica

"Danica honey come in" Susan spoke opening the door for me. She gave me a small smile, I figured she knew a small amount of what happened between Billy and me. I was babysitting Max today, not that she needed one but Susan felt better when I was with her.

"We haven't seen much of you" Billy's father spoke. I could hear the smugness in his voice. He enjoyed the fact that Billy and I weren't together.

"I've been busy sir" I answered, it was a lie though I haven't been busy. Ive been in my bed wallowing. I really wanted to just go back to New York but my mother wouldn't allow it. She stressed about me running away from my problems, like I did the first time.

"Hey let's go to my room" Max barged in saving me. I took a reliever breath following her "Your step father is a douche" I spoke causing her to giggle, "I see where Billy gets it" There was a silence in the room. I wanted to ask the golden question, wanted to know what was going on with him.

"You can ask, I'll be honest"

"What's been going on, you know with them?" I asked plopping myself down on her bed. "Well they broke up I guess. It wasn't messy either."

"What do you mean?" I asked watching as Max sat next to me her legs crossed, "Well he told me that she accepted that he loved you and not her, she left yesterday" She explained. My heart skipped a beat. Could this be true? He loved me more than her. I couldn't forgive him though, he had a lot of time to tell me just like I had time to tell him about my life in New York.

"It's been almost a month, Don't you think you should talk to him" Max suggested. I looked at this little girl who Ive known since she was thirteen, who had grown and became so wise, too wise I might add. "You're too smart for your own good Max." I spoke making her smile, "But i'm not ready to be pulled into your brothers bullshit yet." I added causing her to shake her head.

"You can't ignore him forever" she spoke as I hopped off her bed to go order some food, "I'm not, I'm just simply taking a break from him."

"Danica we're leaving now, we'll be back late okay."

"Okay Mrs. Hargrove enjoy" I spoke as I watched them leave out the front door only to see Billy enter after them, "Oh great" I spoke turning my back to him.

"Danica wait" He spoke following me. I ignored him making my way to the kitchen. "I didn't know you were going to be here"

"Than leave"

"This is my house" He spoke causing me to freeze "Oh" was all I said before grabbing my stuff to leave, "Wait" He spoke grabbing my arm "Stay"

"No you're right, this is your house" I spoke trying to leave. Billy blocking my way so I wouldn't leave. He stared into my eyes giving me a soft look. "I mean it stay" he spoke. It came out more as a whisper. His lips speaking softly to me. This was the closest we've been to each other in about three weeks, The first time seeing each other. I couldn't help but look into his eyes, than to his lips.

"Danica" He whispered as he slowly grabbed my hand, his eyes never leaving mine. "I'm sorry" I couldn't accept that apology. My stubbornness wouldn't allow it. My mind ended going back to Steve. I still loved Billy but there was unfinished business between Steve and me. Billy started to lean in but I quickly turned my face, his lips landing on my cheek. There was an awkwardness between us. He looked down clearing his throat before looking at me. "I'm sorry" I spoke before pushing past him.

I sighed before knocking on the door waiting for Steve to answer. The door flew open revealing him. His hair styled and his body was clad in a plain navy blue long sleeve and jeans, "Hey" he spoke crossing his arms making his arms look bigger and more muscular. I rushed to him wrapping my arms around his neck, his arms automatically knowing to wrap themselves around my waist as he pulled me close. "What's wrong?" He questioned. I sighed placing my head on his shoulder, "I just want to be with you right now."
