Twenty-four

As promised; tiny recap.

Eiko was tortured by a ghoul she didn't know, who was named Naru. He severely injured her, multiple times. Eventually Kaneki, Eto and Ayato came to rescue her. Eto killed Naru before Ayato and Kaneki released Eiko from her restraints.

Eiko's p.o.v.

I sat on the floor, shaking in Kaneki's arms. He just held me and stroked my hair as I buried my face in his chest. I couldn't see very well, as my left eye had turned white and blind because of the torture, and my right eye was covered in tears.

I moved back a bit, rubbing the tears out of my eye. I turned my head to see Ayato, who looked at me with an apologetic smile. I sadly smiled back and wrapped my arms around his waist. I leaned my cheek against  his chest as he held me. I looked at Kaneki, who was still sitting on the floor. I reached out and grabbed his hand. He squeezed my hand and I squeezed back. Then I closed my eyes, finally letting myself relax and letting exhaustion take over.

When I woke up I immediately felt the softness of blankets and pillows around me. I smiled a bit and turned on my side. Then I felt some wind against my face and opened my eyes. Ayato's face appeared right in front of me and I screamed out, crawling backwards.

"Jesus Christ!", I huffed. "Don't... do that."

"Do what?", Ayato asked.

He rested his chin on his arms on the bed as he looked at me with his big innocent eyes.

"Scaring me like that", I mumbled.

"Like what?", a voice behind me suddenly said.

I screamed again as I crawled back to the other side of the bed.

"Kaneki!", I frustratedly said. "Don't scare me like that."

Kaneki and Ayato both chuckled.

"Sorry", they said in sync.

I switched my gaze between them, studying their faces. They seemed relaxed and at ease. The usual unspoken tension between the two of them was gone.

"You two seem to be getting along awfully well", I said. "What happened?"

"When they took you away Kaneki went nuts", Ayato began. "They had to sedate him, so when I heard I went to find him."

"We tried to find you together", Kaneki chimed in. "We looked through every known Aogiri Tree base, but we couldn't find you anywhere."

"Eventually we went to find Eto", Ayato said. "She was on a mission on the other side of town. When we told her what happened she said she would never have let it happen if she would've been here."

"Did she now?", I mumbled, more to myself than to them.

Ayato was about to say something, I could tell. But I wasn't in the mood and quickly spoke up.

"How long was I there anyway?", I asked. "I lost all sense of time."

"Ten days", Kaneki said, avoiding eye contact. "You were gone for ten days."

I nodded to myself. Then I thought of something.

"Is my eye healed?", I randomly asked.

"Come here, let me check", Kaneki said.

I moved to the side of the bed where he knelt down. He gently placed his hand on the side of my face to tilt my head a bit, looking into my eye.

"Looks fine to me", he then said.
