Thirty-three

After I woke up from my nap I went to watch a few movies.

Then I realized it was really late and should head to bed.

I turned off the TV and got up. Then I walked into my room and let myself fall onto my bed face forward. I turned on my side to go to sleep.

After about thirty minutes I gave up hope and sat up straight. I got out of my bed and walked out into the hallway, up to Uta's room.

I knocked on the door before opening it a bit and sticking my head inside the room.

"Uta-kun?", I whispered.

"Eiko", he said as he looked up. "Come in."

I walked in and closed the door behind me. Then I looked at my feet.

"I can't sleep", I mumbled. "Is it okay if I sleep here?"

"Of course", Uta answered.

Some people might think it's weird that I slept there, but it was normal to me.

When I first moved in I cried myself to sleep every night. After I started getting kind of numb, I got trouble falling asleep. I really had to swallow my pride, but I asked Uta if I could sleep in his room. He said it was fine. He wanted to be there for me since he noticed the change in me, and since I had trouble sleeping I spent a lot of nights there. Uta had a huge bed anyway and he always kept his distance. He really helped me fall asleep though.

I climbed onto the bed. Uta was sitting against the headboard, so I had plenty of room. I got under the covers and laid on my side. Then I sighed as I got comfortable.

"Go to sleep, Eiko-chan", Uta mumbled as he brushed some hair out of my face.

I closed my eyes as he stroked my hair. I quickly fell asleep.

When I woke up the next morning Uta was asleep on the other side of the bed. I sat up straight and swung my legs over the edge.

I got up and quietly walked out of the room. I crossed the hall to go into my own room, where I grabbed some clothes that I took with me to the bathroom. There I took off the clothes I was wearing.

After a relaxing shower I brushed my teeth and hair. Then I got dressed. I put my hair into a high ponytail and walked out of the bathroom.

I went into the kitchen and prepared two cups of coffee. I took them with me to the living room, where I put them on the table. Then I sat down on the couch and turned on the TV.

I watched the human news, but it was pretty boring. Nothing really happened in the past few months. Ever since the raid on Cochlea everything had been quiet. I just turned off the TV when Uta walked in.

He looked sleepy as he sat down next to me and took one of the coffee cups from the table.

"Good morning", he said before taking a sip.

"Good morning", I answered before taking a sip of my own coffee. "Is it alright if I go out today?"

Uta's eyes widened a bit. I never wanted to go out, so he must have seen this as improvement. The truth was that I wanted to go to the bookstore, because I'd finished every single book Uta had in his house.

"Of course", he said.

"Thanks", I answered. "I'll go by Anteiku afterwards."

Uta nodded and I finished my coffee. I got up and walked into the kitchen, where I put my mug on the counter and opened the fridge. I took out a piece of meat that I quickly ate.

Truth be told, I hadn't held a slaughter party in months. Ever since Kaneki died, I felt like I just didn't have the energy for it. So I ate the meat Uta provided.
