Chris's POV
"Hey, Feds." I yelled. "What's training today?"
"Flying, Chris." She laughed and brought me over to the training room.
For the past few days I have been here I've gone through some training to help control some of my abilities.
"How the hell do you fly?" I asked.
"Well, you have to concentrate on the thought of floating and just-" she said as she jumped up into the air. "Jump."
"Okay, let me try this." I said as I closed my eyes.
"You're doing it, holy shit." She yelled.
When I opened my eyes I was a few feet from the floor. "What the-" I said as I fell back to the ground.
She laughed at me and helped me back up. "That was pretty good, but stay in the air next time."
"I'll try." I replied
"But that was really good, you're catching on quick." She reassured me.
"Duh, this stuff is easy." I smiled.
"Whatever, newbie." She replied.
What I said was true. I've been here for almost a week and everything I've learned has come to me more than easily. Even Feds was surprised sometimes.
Most of the people I met here are friendly. My opinion about Vampires has changed since. I've been fed animal blood and some human food because I'm not used to the meals yet, Feds just drinks straight from the blood pouches already. I like it here way better than home. I don't really want to go back.
"Hey, Feds, do you ever think about going back home?" I asked.
"Don't ever say that out loud again." She said defensively.
"what- I" I trailed on confused.
"No one here can go home, only down here and up in castle rock occasionally." She sighed. "If they think that someone is trying to run away then they will punish everyone to make sure no one leaves. This is my home now, this is your home."
"But did you?" I whispered.
"I did, once. When I was younger." She said quickly and let go of me.
"I'm sorry." I apologized. "Can we get back to training?"
"Oh, yeah. That's fine." She smiled weakly. "Once you get the hang of it, you don't even have to jump any more."
She took a deep breath and slowly lifted from the floor. I watched her as she laid back in the air as if she was in water. If you think about it, Vampires are fucking cool.
I closed my eyes and jumped up once again and opened my eyes again. I lifted myself up and swam through the air as if I had done this a million times.
"Damn, newbie you're doing great." She laughed as she followed me.
With Feds, training was great. Some of the friends I made had it bad. Their mentors were brutal. I was the lucky one, this time.
"Well, I had a great teacher." I flirted.
She blushed and continued to do some tricks in the air. Wait did I just flirt with my mentor. What? I am half dead and the first thing I do is fall for this random girl. I didn't even know her first name. Wait I don't know her last name either. Oh whatever, I don't mind it actually, Feds is pretty cool. We both like the same things and she was pretty. No- this is wrong. I'm sure she'd never. I shouldn't be thinking about this.
"CHRIS, WATCH OUT!" Feds yelled.
"FUCK." I screamed as I flew into the wall. I ran into it head first and slowly sunk to the ground.
"Nice one, kid." She giggled and helped me back up. "You'll be fine, here have some of this." She handed me a small pouch and I bit into it slowly.
"What is this, what does it do?" I asked.
"It's blood. You feed off of the nutrients of the blood of the animal." She stated. "The nutrients is what keeps you alive, in a vampire sort of way."
I nodded, took another bite, and have it back to her. My energy had come back slowly and I could no longer feel the throbbing in my head.
"See, you're better already." She smiled.
"How do you know?" I asked.
"Well, you seem to be floating just fine." She answered.
"I am- what?" I peered down and the floor was no longer directly beneath me. Startled as I was, I didn't fall down this time. "Oh I guess I am."
"Yeah, after you have the hang of flying sometimes you don't even realize you're doing it." She said and flew around some more. "Control, that's the hard part."
I nodded and continued to fly around, trying to focus more than play around.
"Chris, come here." Feds said in a harsh tone. "You can't tell anyone that you're accelerating this fast, no one. Don't be seen flying the rest of the initiates are still learning how to drink through their teeth."
"What, why?" I asked.
"The leaders get threatened very very easily and they will get rid of anyone that can potentially be stronger than them." She said.
"I might be stronger than them?" I laughed.
"It's a possibility Chris. There was this one initiate from last year that almost killed Ace discovering his new ability- and that was on accident. And he was executed in the next hour." She sighed. "Just be careful."
"I will, don't worry about me. I can carry my own weight." I said comfortingly.
"Let's hope so." Feds smiled back.
