"What took so long?" Tom was sprawled over my sofa eating a banana from my fruit bowl.

"Er- it was just Amelia complaining about her lecturer. She just needed to let off some steam." I lied and sat back down on the sofa with him.

My phone buzzed once and the screen lit up.

Text Message from Awsten:
Goodnight love x

A smile spread across my cheeks and I had to turn it down to not look weird to Tom.

"I'm gonna go to bed, are you coming?" Tom stood up and stretched his arms out.

"Yeah, I won't be long. I just need to make my lunch." I looked up at him.

Text Message to Awsten:
Thank you for listening to me. Sleep well x

I bit my lip, getting the butterflies in my stomach that I got the first time we kissed, the first time he told me he loved me, the first time he took me, the first time he called me his misses in front of his friends and family.

I made my lunch for tomorrow and went to bed. Tom was already snoring away.

*******
I woke up sweat dripping down my spine, blood rushing through my skull, and a heart thumping out of my chest. I remembered the nightmare I had.

I was drowning in this bright blue lake that had no bottom and I couldn't reach the surface, no matter how far I swam.

I went into the kitchen and made myself a fruit tea and my finger lingered over the call button on Awsten's contact. I pressed it.

"Buttercup? Are you okay?" He panicked his greeting after only a few dials.

"Hi." I said so softly that it was barely there.

"It's 4am in the UK. Are you okay?" He asked his voice groggy like he had just gotten to sleep and I woke him up.

"I had a nightmare. I didn't know who else to call. Did I wake you up?"

"Don't worry about it. I only just fell asleep. What was it about?" His voice was so gentle and warm, I couldn't help but smile.

"It doesn't matter. Can you tell me a story?" I felt like the year hadn't even passed.

"Sure. Let me think." He giggled. "So there was this boy, dreams way too big for this world, heart on his sleeve just playing shitty pop punk songs on his guitar. Over time, he got to live his dreams. He toured the world with his best friends, everything was perfect.

Then one day, he met this girl, heart too big for this world, worry on her sleeve. She would smile and giggle when she thought no one was listening or watching, she would hum these melodies that she'd then make into poetry.
