I quickly scribbled a scroll for when my mother would return before we flew at dawn to meet with Grilop, the low sun granting us cover. None of us had entered the Forest of Khutt, so we landed just outside cautiously.
The forest and overgrown, with vines dangling between trees, and no visible path. Deltul spoke what we all were thinking. "How are we going to find him in this?!"
In reply, a loud booming sound made us flinch. I looked towards the noise to see a massive body crashing through the trees. The beast's head was so tall, it poked above the jungle and spotted us.
"Master Grilop!" I gasped, flying up to meet him. Nota and Deltul followed me with hesitation.
"Young Zepth, welcome." He seemed relatively happy compared to his usual grouchy reputation. "And who is with you?"
"My denmate Deltul, who you evaluated to be an Electric Dragon." I gestured towards my cowering sibling.
"And I am Nota." She introduced herself proudly. "A Metal Dragon."
"I think you misunderstood my question." Grilop grumbled. "Why are they here?"
I frowned because our situation was not pleasant. "Nota was attacked by one of the Queen's guards, but she fought him off. They're looking for all of us and we need to be able to defend ourselves."
Grilop thought for a moment in silence, before nodding and leading us into the forest...
Meanwhile, in Tagonia's Castle...
She got away?!" Queen Hyla screeched at the news. She swung her tail, which slammed into her failed guard and sent him crashing into the wall. The other guards trembled in fear.
"Highness, she was protected!" He shrieked, crawling back up to his paws.
"By whom?!" Her fiery eyes locked on the guard.
"Zepth, majesty! It was she who attacked me!" He cried.
"You failed me because of a HATCHLING?!" She snarled and stood over him. Her piercing eyes stared into his.
"Majesty, please..." He whimpered. The other guards looked down, as they didn't want to watch. Understandably.
"You have failed me." Her purple, snake-like eyes flared red. The guard howled in pain on the floor and his eyes rolled to the back of his head, then his whole body snapped and twisted under his skin, until he went limp on the floor and blood tickled from his mouth.
"Clean this up, before I do the same to you all." The Queen turned and sat on her throne, her eyes turned back to purple.
"Why couldn't you just fall under my rule, like everyone else, Zepth?" Queen Hyla sighed, resting her chin on a sharp wrist. "We could have worked together, I would have let you live!
"But you have proven yourself to be more troublesome than I originally thought, which I can't afford with this silly prophecy going around." She growled in frustration. "Still, it's a pity to spill such young blood..."
"Your Highness!" A servant burst through the doors, carrying a scroll. "King Vehest of the Blatua Kingdom sends his word! He says it's urgent!"
"Urgent?" The Queen scoffed and took the rolled up paper. "He's always been quite the dramatic one."
"Hm, he makes an intriguing point." Queen Hyla grinned. "Dare I say, it might even be entertaining. Besides, I have a handful of dragons just dying to participate..."
The Queen pulled out a roll of parchment and dipped her talon in silver ink, before beginning her letter back to King Vehest.
