In a world where humans never existed, there're such beings of magic and wonder in their place. Dragons are the most intelligent, and therefore the dominant species.
Each dragon hatches from...
"I have an idea..." I poked at the fire crackling in the den. Nota looked up at me, dark lines under her tired eyes. "We can't keep living in this cave in fear until Queen Hyla comes and kills us."
"What are you suggesting?"
"We need more information to stay ahead of her, and to stay away from others who would hunt for us." I bit my lip, not wanting to bring Nota to relive these memories. I hesitantly continued "Nota, I need you to tell me everything you know about the Suns of Kirah."
She straightened herself and inhaled deeply. "Not much..." She whispered.
"Do you know how they found your mother?" I went straight to the point I didn't want to bring up. Surprisingly, Nota didn't start crying or looking down. Instead, she looked straight into my eyes with a burning hatred.
"They had spies everywhere." She told me. "No one knew who to trust, it was a dark time. They all had one thing in common: their purpose. They saw it as their duty to find and destroy all 'impure' dragons, or Dark Dragons. They believed it was the only way to ensure the survival of the 'pure' one-elementals."
"Are there any once in the Suns that rebelled?"
Nota laughed bitterly. "They quickly killed off the ones who didn't remained loyal." She blinked at me. "There was one, though, who managed to escape. He is well known in the Blatua Kingdom as a savior to those fleeing."
"Who?" I pressed.
"His name..." Nota closed her eyes and tried to remember. "... Was King Riard. He escaped into the land of Flutwit, living as a king ever since. No one knows what happened to him once the Suns of Kirah vanished."
"Fluwit isn't far from here, it's in the Sulona Kingdom!" I came to my feet, excited. "We could fly there first thing tomorrow-"
"Zepth!" Nota stood up and shook her head. "What are you talking about? You want to just up and fly to Fluwit to look for some old dragon who may be dead for all we know?!"
"That's exactly what I'm thinking. It's too dangerous to stay in Tagonia, waiting to be killed." I explained, a smile forming. "We go find King Riard, and find out exactly how to stay ahead of anyone hunting Dark Dragons, including Queen Hyla!"

We got up before dawn, the next morning and prepared for the journey. Deltul didn't ask many questions, all he knew was that we were going somewhere new to explore. And new it was. Fluwit was nothing like Tagonia...
Tagonia's lush vegetation and forest mountains paled at the intensity of the Fluwit desert lands. Sandstorms lasted weeks there, and water was hard to come by. The land looked identical from every direction, and the winds changed the sand dunes daily. I found it hard to believe any dragon could live in such conditions, but Deltul seemed thrilled to visit the land he read so much about in scrolls.
