It was a cool winters evening and i was walking home from a party that had run late into the night.

Me being a 17 year old boy, walking down a dark road wasn't scary anymore but in my memory there was always one horrible glimpse, that would later change my life. I remember walking down the road just near my house at about 12am and beginning to feel a bit "off" like as if something just feels unusual or out of place and i distinctly remember a glint of orange under the moonlight as i passed by my front gate and to my front door.

I fell onto my bed, feeling its cool embrace and slowly being lulled into deep sleep, then i heard it. A small noise that wouldn't seem out of the ordinary in most cases but this was different. I heard a small cracking noise out side of my window in the back yard, i dismissed this as a cat trying to get in my trash but it came again and it had a very unusual rhythm to it.

After an hour of listening to this bizarre cracking noise i was able to determine when it was going to crack, then i realized something that made me jolt up in fear.

Those cracks. Were coming nearer and nearer to me.

I quickly ran to my closet and put on a small face wrap to mask my breathing, then I found an old baseball bat in the corner, perfect i think as my mask twitches to show a smile.

Then as i am about to pick it up i hear a boy's voice, sounds about 17 years old, whisper into my ear.

Now now mister, no need for that now is there?

Suddenly a sharp pain emits from my leg and i fall to my knees, i see the boy looking over me, a maniacal grin spreading over his face. He wears bright orange goggles and is twitching, causing his bones to snap and crack into horrible positions.

He slowly reaches out to my face.

He yanks the mask from my now pale and wide eyed face and says in a hushed tone

T-Thanks for the m-mask.

And then he flips me onto my stomach in one swift movement and leaves, leaving blood trailing from a large hatchet held in his hand.

I'll never forget that day.

And the one thing that always puzzles me is...why I see that orange glint..whenever I am alone...
