"I told you I didn't want to go," John groans as we walk to Brian and Roger's flat. It turns out it's not that far from where I live.

"Deaky, the party is basically for you," I tell him, shivering my hands in my coat pockets. "It's to celebrate your first show together as a band. You're obligated to go,"

He sighs. He knows I'm right. When I talked to Freddie over the phone he told me to make John come because he was on the verge of not going.

We finally come across their house. It's small and slightly rundown looking. People and cups litter the lawn. I can't tell if the house is overflowing or if these people just came out for a smoke.

John and I push our way through and into the house. It's definitely not as crowded inside as I was expecting, but it's still full.

"Maddie! John!" Brian sings when we walk through the door. He greets us and gives me a small hug, and bumps fists with John. "I'm so glad you came,"

"Thank you for the invitation," I tell him with a smile.

"Anytime. Any friend of the band's is a friend of ours," he shoots me a smile. "I'll show you where the drinks are,"

John and I follow the curly haired man to the kitchen. I nearly trip on a few empty cans on the way.

"Take your pick," he says, gesturing to a larger array of drinks on a table in the kitchen. They're primarily beer. I reach and grab a can, unsure of the brand. I've never heard of it before but I decide to try it. John grabs the same one as I.

Just then two people come in, arguing. It's Freddie and Roger. Freddie stops briefly to say hello to me.

"Maddie, darling! I'm so glad to see you," he leans forward and gives me a kiss on the cheek.

"Hi Freddie," I giggle. My hoop earring nearly become tangled in his hair, but luckily no damage was done.

"Brian, could you tell Freddie he can't force me to stay?" Roger says, picking up their argument. I pop the top of my can and take a sip. It's lighter than what I'm used to, but good nonetheless.

Brian turns to face them, clearly annoyed. "Where are you planning on going exactly?" he asks Roger.

"Out," he snaps.

"Rog, live a little," Freddie tells him. "This party is for us. Plus it's hosted at your own place,"

"No offense, but I could be doing better things on my Saturday nights," he argues. "I could give you their names," he smirks.

I roll my eyes. So Roger is that person. Although I'm not surprised. I already knew that.

"You know we do have company right?" Brian tells him, cocking his head towards John and I. Roger glances over in our direction.

"Oh I don't mean to be rude," he says to us, walking over. He gives John one of those 'manly' hugs and then gives me a small one. It takes me back because I am not expecting it. I suppose the alcohol, that I can smell on him, is playing a role.

"Say Maddie," Roger says when he pulls apart. He stands inches away from me. I can smell the faint smell of alcohol and smoke on his breath. "what are you doing after this?"

"Not you," I say, before I can even think about the words that have just left my lips.

He narrows his eyes slightly, but not in an intimidating way. He looks stumped, like he doesn't know how to respond. We stand there, staring at each other for what feels like forever. I refuse to look away first though.

I can't help but notice how pretty his eyes are. His blue ones stand out against his long eyelashes. I also notice his pupils are huge. Perhaps it is the alcohol. And the way his hair frames his face is perfect. No wonder why all the girls find him attractive. He has his pick of the litter.

Freddie clears his throat and walks over to me, putting a hand on my back.

"C'mon darling, I have someone I want you to meet," he says, guiding me out of the kitchen, away from he other boys. We walk through the crowded house, my beer still in my hands. Freddie holds my arm lightly so that he doesn't lose me. "You're the only girl that's talked back to Roger, not once but twice," he tells me quietly.

"I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude..." I quickly apologize. I really don't mean to be rude but I can get snappy myself sometimes.

Freddie laughs and stops among all the people, me following suit.

"It's not rude. Roger's a great guy but he can be a prick sometimes. He likes your sass. Told us himself the other night after you met the lads," he tells me.

"Really?" I ask.

He nods. "He's very fond of you from what I've heard,"

"He just wants to get in my pants," I groan.

Freddie goes to say something else, but a girl who looks to be about my age comes up to us. She looks familiar, with blonde hair and blue eyes. She's very pretty and her nonstop smiling makes me think she is sweet too.

"Maddie, this is Mary," he says. "And Mary this is Maddie,"

We shake hands. Her hands are considerably softer and smaller than mine.

"It's nice to meet you," she says. I notice she wraps one of her arms around Freddie's waist.

"It's nice to meet you as well," I tell her with a smile.

"Both you and Mary believed in me," Freddie says. "With joining the band and actually going for it. I thought maybe you would get along,"

"We can form a fan club for Freddie," I tell Mary. She laughs.

"I am all for it," she agrees.

I groan internally as I realize I've left John alone in the kitchen. Well not exactly alone, but I promised I wouldn't leave his side. I was so caught in the moment with Freddie that I completely forgot for a moment.

"Mary it was lovely meeting you but I need to go find Deaky. I accidentally left him when I promised I wouldn't," I tell her, giving her and Freddie an apologetic look. "Freddie, will you give my number to Mary? We can make plans to hang out,"

Mary beams and Freddie nods his head. He gives my arm a squeeze before I turn around and walk back to the kitchen to look for John. I have to push through many bodies to get there, but eventually I do only to find him and the other lads not there. I sigh and make my way outside. Perhaps he went out for a break.

I don't find John, but I do however run into Roger who has his lips on a short brunette girl who wears an extremely tight and revealing outfit. I recognize her from the bars. She goes to the band's shows almost every week like I do.

They must have heard me or felt my presence because they both pull away to look at me the moment I lay eyes on them. The girl looks unfazed, and still has her hands on Roger's chest. He, however, looks shocked almost.

"Maddie I-" he goes to say, but I cut him off.

"I'm sorry," I tell him, my cheeks blushing. "I was just looking for John,"

Roger pulls away completely from the girl and looks like he is going to say something else, but I turn around on my heel and walk back into the house. My chest feels weird. I don't know why. Maybe it's because Freddie told me Roger is fond of me and then I find him snogging someone else. Of course Roger would sleep with anyone, but that's not the point.

I shake my head, to rid the thought. It doesn't matter. Roger can do whatever, and whoever, he wants. Why should it bother me?

I finally lay eyes on John, who stands down the hall with Brian, laughing over something. I walk over to them, hoping to get my mind off of things.
