Madison

"Oh Madison, he's wonderful," Mary swoons.

I had invited her over my flat to hang out for a bit. I've grown to really like Mary. It seems like she's grown attached to me too.

"I'm happy for you!" I tell her. "Freddie is great,"

I flip over so I'm laying on my back. Mary and I both lay on the floor in my room, facing the ceiling.

"It was so fast you know? But I think I really love him. It's crazy but I've never had this feeling about anyone before," Mary says, holding both of her hands on her heart.

"Young love is wonderful thing," I sigh. Freddie and Mary have definitely gotten a lot closer since they first started dating. They're practically inseparable, but luckily I get to snag Mary when I can.

"I keep hoping to meet his family soon, but he keeps pushing it off,"

"It'll happen with time," I tell Mary. "You've only been dating for a couple weeks,"

She sighs dramatically. "I know, I'm just impatient,"

I laugh just as the phone begins to ring. I quickly stand up and nearly trip over my bed as I struggle to get to it.

"Hello?" I answer in a sing song voice.

"Hi, Madison?" a guy says on the other line.

"This is she,"

"Hi it's Roger,"

My heart does the thing and I sit down on my bed.

"Oh hey," I say. I smile and tuck a piece of my hair behind my ear. Mary sits up and faces me.

"Who is it?" she mouths.

I hold a finger up to my lips.

"How are you?" Roger asks. He sounds...stiff. Or like he's really thinking about what he wants to say.

"I'm good. And you?"

"I'm good, I'm good,"

I twist my phone cord around my fingers. "I was starting to think you weren't going to call," I admit. It's been a couple of days since he walked me home.

Roger pauses before answering.

"I wanted to create a little suspense," he jokes.

"Oh did you now?"

Roger laughs, causing me to smile.

"So to what do I owe this pleasure?" I ask. Mary watches me, very interested in who's on the other line.

"Well I was -" Roger says. "I was wondering if I could take you out,"

My cheeks heat up and a smile creeps on my face.

"Where would you want to go?" I ask, slowly. Mary moves so she is sitting on the bed with me. She moves her head towards to phone to listen.

"Well I was thinking I could pick you up and we could go out for a drink? Or we can do coffee if you want to go in the morning..." Roger says. He sounds nervous almost. The tone in his voice makes me believe that maybe he really wants more than just a shag.

I pause. Mary covers her mouth with her hands to prevent herself from giggling.

"How's tomorrow night? You can pick me up at eight," I say.

I look at Mary as we wait for Roger to answer. It feels like infinity before I finally hear his voice.

"I will see you tomorrow," he says.
