I AM BACK EVERYONE

...

Roger

Somehow we had convinced DJ Kenny Everett to play Bohemian Rhapsody on the radio. It didn't take nearly as much convincing as I thought it would. He was quite eager to play it and he absolutely loved teasing our fans with it. He would play little snippets of it on the radio and the fans would call in demanding to hear the full single.

And then Kenny played it. All six minutes of it. And hearing it on the radio was magnificent. But some people thought otherwise.

"'A superficially impressive pastiche of incongruous musical styles'," Brian says, reading off of a newspaper. He angrily throws it besides his and runs a hand over his face. "I mean that's bullshit,"

"I hope you know I knew what exactly none of those words meant," I tell Brian with a smile. He glares at me from where he is seated on the couch. Freddie waltzes in to the room and plants himself next to Brian. Deaky sits in a chair near me.

"All I heard was impressive and I am okay with that," Freddie says.

"It means we're imitating opera and doing a bad job at it," John mumbles.

"Oh hush Deaky don't be so negative," Freddie tells him.

John looks over at him, tiredly. "I'm literally just telling you what the review said,"

"This is malarky," Brian continues to complain.

The reviews of the song haven't been consistent. Some people love it, while others destroy it. Mainly the critics have an issue with it for whatever reason. Our fans absolutely love it. I'm surprised it hasn't hit number one on the charts yet considering how much it is being requested and bought.

"Who cares what they think? The fans love it, we love it. Maddie, Mary,Chrissie and Veronica love it. Nothing else matters," I tell the lads. They're thinking about this too much. Sure it hurts when someone doesn't like your song. I would know that. But sometimes you just have to say 'fuck them' and move on. Or lock yourself in a cupboard until they come to terms with how amazing the song actually is.

"Rog is right for once," Freddie says.

"For once?" I ask, leaning forward in my seat ready to fight him on the matter but Brian cuts me off.

"It's just unfortunate," he says, sighing heavily. "I suppose I'll just stay out of the media. Doesn't do me any good anyways,"

The front door opens suddenly and in comes Veronica and Maddie. John and I immediately light up.

"Well?" John asks eagerly.

Grins spread on Maddie and Veronica's faces. Excitement flutters in their eyes and their cheeks flush.

"If everything goes well, we'll get to graduate in May," Veronica explains.

I immediately stand and rush over to my girl. I pick her up and spin her around, Maddie laughing in my neck.

"That is excellent news," I tell Mads.

I set her down. She keeps her hands on my shoulders as she speaks rapidly.

"I have to write this major thesis and I have absolutely no idea what I am going to write it on but nevertheless all the professors were so impressed with my work thus far - and Veronica's - that they said we are set to graduate in May," Maddie spits out.

I smile at her and kiss her forehead. "God you're so smart," I tell her.

"Smarter than Brian you reckon?" Freddie calls from the couch. Maddie and I turn to face him.

"I dunno, Brian is some tough competition if you want to call it that," Maddie says with a grin.

"One day I might go back to school," Brian tells us. I want to vomit at the words school. "Not in the near future but just the future,"

"And we will be there with you every step of the way," Maddie states, causing Brian to smile.

The rest of the night is spent catching up about Maddie and Veronica's academic careers and what they have planned after wards. Eventually Mary and Chrissie come to join our conversation. It's like they've been here all along.

Veronica wants to become a teacher. She doesn't know the age group she wants to work with yet but she's set to be a full time teacher after she graduates if all pans out well. A couple schools are looking for teachers and they've already reach out to Veronica.

As for Maddie she isn't quite sure what she wants to do. She knows for certain she doesn't want to go back to tutoring maths. I mean who would?

Brian and her went back and forth on a couple ideas. I secretly think Brian is living through Maddie. He's living the dream now, but he won't lose his passion for the stars and space and shit. That's obvious. He suggested research and a couple other jobs with the space station. Maddie said she just wants to get the degree first and then go from there.

In all honesty I wouldn't even mind just supporting Maddie if she didn't want to work. We've been racking in the money lately, especially with A Night At The Opera and Bohemian Rhapsody's release. Sure the album dropped literally this week, but it's already a smash. Queen has gained so much recognition for it. I never thought we could get more famous than we were but here we are. We even have body guards now to accompany us everywhere.

I don't mind the body guards when I'm with the boys. I've gotten used to it. But when Maddie and I just want to go out the two of us, it's a little annoying. The amount of times we've snuck out is insane. I mean we're not teenagers anymore. I'm not living in my parents house.

Speaking of my parents..

"Mum really wants to meet you," I tell Maddie once we are settled in our bed at home. She gives me a worried look. "We've been putting it off for ages,"

Maddie turns to face me. I roll on my side so we're now facing each other.

"I'm just worried she won't like me. Believe me I want to meet your family so badly, but I'm scared," Maddie admits. I take the hand that's not propping my head up and place it on her shoulder, rubbing it in a comforting way.

"They're going to love you," I assure her. "I can promise you that. And I'll be there to ease the situation," I give her a cheeky wink.

"Maybe we can do something soon," she suggests quietly.

"I'll call up Mum tomorrow and we'll go from there, yeah?"

Maddie nods. I lean in a kiss her gently. She makes me so soft and so hard at the same time.

"I love you," she tells me, rolling on her back.

"I love you more," I tell her honestly.

As we lay in bed, Maddie drifts off to sleep and I'm left to twiddle my fingers. My mind is consumed with what tomorrow will bring.

Deaky and I are going ring shopping.
