In the morning I woke up to a knock at my door."Sweetie, I have to do some work today, and won't be back until late. I put money on the counter for dinner, and I made pancake and eggs, they're in the oven. I'll see you later." dad said on the other side of the door.
"Okay," I said turning around and grabbing my phone, looking at the time. It was 9:03. I groaned as I sat up rubbing the sleep from my eyes.
Today was Saturday, so no school. I thought about what I should do, and nothing came to mind. I figured I should at least start with a shower. I got up and went to my closet. I grabbed a pair of grey sweatpants and an oversized long sleeve loose crop top. I took a shower, which soothed my tense muscles and then got out. I put on some fuzzy sock and put my hair in a ponytail, then sat at my desk. I guess I should start some homework.
After about two hours I was done with my homework. I got up and opened my balcony door to let some air in. I looked around my room and caught my eye on a guitar. As soon as I got closer o it, I realized that it was my mom's. How did it get here? I don't remember grabbing it. I noticed a note attached to the top of the neck.
Willow,
Ivy told me you played and that this was your mother's. I saw that you didn't grab it when we were leaving, so I figured it was because it took up too much space. So, I asked Ivy to send it. I hope that at some point you can play something for me since Ivy told me you can also sing. I bet you sing as beautiful as your mother.
Dad.
I smiled. My mom was an amazing singer. When I was little and I would have a nightmare or there was a thunderstorm, I would get so scared, so she would make me feel better by singing to me.
I picked up the guitar and sat on the floor against my bed looking towards the closet. I randomly started strumming different chords, but then I began to actually play a song. It was one of my favorite songs.
I played the correct chords and then all of a sudden I was singing. The music took me away and all of a sudden I couldn't stop. There was nothing more peaceful and beautiful than a moment like this.
I finished the song with a smile, then suddenly I heard clapping. I set the guitar against my bed and got up. I went to the balcony to see Tyler clapping in nothing but blue basketball shorts.
"I knew you could sing." He said when he stopped clapping.
"I didn't know you were there," I said blushing in embarrassment.
"I'm glad I was." He leaned against the edge of the balcony right in front of me. "So, how'd you sleep?"
"Okay, you?"
"Perfect." I smiled. "Do you want to hang out today?" I looked up at him and nodded. "How about the park?"
"Sounds perfect," I said.
"Okay, I'll pick you up in an hour."
"Okay." He smiled before walking back into his room.
I went back into mine and went into my closet. I decided to keep my shirt on and just change into a pair of grey ripped jean shorts.
I sat back down on the floor with my guitar and played random chords for about an hour until I heard the doorbell. I put on my black high top converse, grabbed my phone and then headed downstairs. I opened the door to see Tyler in his shorts and a white t-shirt.
"You ready?" I nodded. I shut the door and we went to the sidewalk. "So, where'd you learn how to play the guitar?" He asked as we started walking towards the park, which he told me was a few blocks from here.
"My mom started teaching me when I was around thirteen. That was her guitar, actually." I said.
"That's cool."
"Do you play?"
"Yeah, my dad taught me. He was a big music guy. He also taught me the piano."
"That's cool. I've always wanted to learn the piano. I love the way they sound."
"Maybe I could teach you sometime."
I looked at him and smiled. "I'd like that."
We continued talking until we got to the park. "I'll race you to the swings." He said before taking off towards them. I laughed as I ran after him, but it was pretty clear that he won. "I won."
"That's not fair, you got a head start." I laughed as I sat in the swing at the end. He leaned against the poles of the swings and looked at me. "What?"
He shook his head. "Nothing." I gave him the look that I didn't believe him. "It's nothing, I just..." He paused. "I just think you're beautiful."
I looked down blushing while I started pushing myself to start swinging slightly. "You really think so?" He nodded. "You know, the only person who's ever called me that was my mom."
"I find that really hard to believe." He said.
"It's true. Guys always say I'm hot or sexy, which isn't the same thing."
"How so?"
I sighed. "Calling someone hot is saying that they have an attractive outside. Calling someone beautiful is saying that even though you're pretty on the outside, you're ten times more attractive on the inside. It's telling someone that not only they have a beautiful outside, they also have a beautiful soul." I paused and looked at him. "I don't like when someone is just attracted to me for my outside. I want people to love my soul, my personality."
He stared at me for a minute. "You're amazing." He said smiling.
"I'm not that amazing."
"Whatever you say. " he sighs.
I laughed. "So, if you aren't the man-whore of the school, what are you then?" I asked after a moment of silence.
He looked at me and chuckled. "I'm Tyler Anderson, son of Nicole and Scott Anderson, and I've been accused of being a man-whore." I giggled. "I don't know who I am, I'm just me right now."
"Okay."
"Who are you?" He smirked.
"I'm Willow Hale, daughter of two parents who didn't mean to have me but did. I don't exactly know who I am, either."
We laughed.
"I guess we'll have to figure that out together." He said
"Yeah, I guess we will."
And I was looking forward to it.
