Being glared at wasn't something that was uncommon to Ruby, but those green eyes were slicing into her soul.
"Uhm- I- it's- I didn't" Ruby stutters, then proceeded to start chuckling- what she did when she was nervous around someone attractive- and then finally looked at the floor. Royce was wearing his notorious green plaid jacket, which made his green eyes shine, captivating all that chose to look."Hey Royce, uhm you know Ruby, can't keep that little mouth of her shut! We were just leaving!" Eli shouted. While grabbing her friend and dragging her right out this unfortunate situation.
But not ready to let this go Royce steps in front of them"I'll let this slide, but Who do you think you are to be talking shit and talking about others? Think you're so cool?" He glares, looking down at them both.
"Listen I'm sorry, but... can't deny the fact that you're mean to everyone. You have a stick up your ass" Ruby declared.
"How I behave really isn't any of your business is it? I don't have to explain shit to you, you're a kid. And what, 8 inches tall?" Royce barks into her face.
"No it isn't my business, but when I'm the one receiving the attitude-which I am right now- it then becomes my business!"
"Think you're cool that you finally my a coherent sentence? Just get out of my face" Royce grumbled as he walks away.
But neither girl can handle the slight blush they feel looking at him. With a jawline that could slice, and structured face that all falls into place; but once you meet him it's as if those charms then blacken.
"OH MY GOD! That was so embarrassing I want the grim reaper to come get me ASAP." Ruby shouted in a whisper, frustrated at herself for not being able to make a coherent sentence.
"Let's just pretend it never happened alright?" Eli hushed her.
In class
Sitting in class, Ruby was staring at her teacher, watching the way he walked around the class and spoke with clarity. It brought her back to when she made a complete fool of herself. Yet Royce had a point, who was she to judge others when her own life was a mess.
Going home to an empty home, because her mom was constantly working. Growing up without a dad was easy, but growing up with only one source of income was what made it difficult. Ruby knows her dad, he's an okay man- but he never lied about not wanting to be her father, having to take the responsibilities was not his forte, so he disappeared.Doesn't make Royce any less of an ass, but he did make a strong point.
And setting her head down, she did her daily ritual.
Laying down, she looked to her left. And there, was Stellan. Wearing a new jacket- white turtle neck- with black jeans and his checkered vans, with black socks today. Smiling at herself, she loved Thursday's - or as she knows them, the Day of the Checkered. Wondering why, why does he choose to wear black and white? The good and evil, impure and pure, god and the devil? Or was she simply, over thinking and it was a fashion choice. Wether it is or not, she knows there's something behind those hazel eyes, those eyes that shine when he smiles. Because even when she speaks to him, asking what was the homework, she sees it- that part of his mind that seems to be locked away somewhere. Ruby wishes to just put her hand to his cheek and have him tell her all those secrets locked behind his eyes.
But unfortunately her little crush has only been an inconvenience since Stellan was an incredibly awkward teen, nothing like his older brother Royce. Ruby has accepted the fact, that even if Stellan did find her the slightest bit attractive, she would probably never know since they've never had any conversation longer than four sentences. And during this gazing, Stellan felt a set of eyes on him and turned directly to his right and looked at Ruby. Feeling her heart drop, she quickly turned away and pretended to do her work, wincing at her failure at being low key.
DING! DING! DING!
Finally with the bell ringing Ruby packs up ready to leave, seeing Stellar walking out she catches up to him, wanting to at least have an awkward conversation- anything.
"Hey Stellan!" She smiles up at him."Oh! Hey." He smiles down at her, a bit shocked at how tiny she is as if she popped out of no where. Silence fell upon them both.
"So glad to be out of class, god if I hear him lecture for another minute I think I might pass out" Ruby chucked.
God why is talking to him so difficult?"Haha yeah" he chuckled. Leaving them back to silence.
"Ruby!" Someone yelled. Thanking god that she's been saved but at the same disappointed Stellan won't talk to her, she looks behind her to see Ed- a friend of hers.
"Ed! Ahah you look cool today!" Pointing at his leather jacket. From her peripheral vision she sees Stellan view this interaction and proceed to walk away. Disappointed he didn't say anything, she left her focus on Ed.
"I know! And with the money I used to buy this, I also got some candy!"
"Where's my candy?" Ruby pouts.
"At my house, come over and I'll give yuh some."
"Bet. Give me your address. Oh and if suddenly everything you own goes missing, it wasn't me"
"It's okay if it's you robbing my house" Ed smiles down at her. "I'm sure my stuff will be happy to be in your company"
Brain completely frozen and not knowing what to say, Ruby chuckles. Confused because Ed has been asking her out relentlessly since freshman year, his flirting never stopped. Hoping to move on from this conversation she tells him she's going to meet her friends at the cafeteria.
"Hey before you leave, are you and Stellan, friends?"
Taken aback from his question, Ruby looked up and met his eyes. Ed never hid anything behind his. There was clear worry, and jealousy. Not having anything to hide Ruby told the truth.
"Oh nah I wouldn't say that, we've talked a couples times, we follow each other or instagram, but i don't know if we are friends though."
Still looking at his eyes, she visibly sees his shoulders relax and the worry leave his eyes.
"Oh well, be careful. Don't need the wrath of Royce on your back. Okay? I want you to be safe Rubes."
"Hah yeah of course. Bye ed!"
