Chapter 5

Stellan

*RRRRING*

Groaning at the sound of his alarm clock, Stellan slams it. Hating how his nightmares aren't letting him sleep properly. Today is going to be a moody day.

Getting up and stretching his back he heard his entire spine crack.

"Jesus. I'm pretty sure you need calcium for that." Royce started laughing, cracking up by the fact of how crazy Stellans back cracked.

Startled that his brother is even in his room, Stellan covers his bare chest. "What the hell Royce!" Walking to his door he reaches to slam it. Before letting his brother slam the door into his face Royce stops it with his arm.

"Today we are going to visit dad at work. It'll only be for an hour don't worry, afterward you can go hang out with friends" Giving Stellan the 'look' that they both need to remember to be in good behavior.

Nodding his head in response, Royce then removed his arm and Stellan closed the door.

Royce gives Stellan a ride to school everyday. Leaving the car Stellan says bye to his brother and walks to his locker. Slowly walking he watched all the people pass around him, not paying attention to any conversation as the voices just jumble up around him. Arriving to his locker, his best friend David is there laying on it.

"Hey." David pats Stellan on the back. Stellan nods in his direction. They both are at the height of 6"1 they met eye to eye, just like they do on most things.

"Stellan. Heard what happened with your brother last night at the schools theater. You-uhm- *coughs* you good?" David asks very uncomfortably. Not use to asking people about their feelings, yet he is  well aware of how close Stellan is with his brother and wanted to be sure he's okay.

"Yeah I'm good. Had a rough night though"

"Well, hope things work out."

"Me too. You want to hang tonight? I have to see my dad today, and-"

"Don't worry buddy." Smiling at Stellar, David nudges his shoulder, "I'll pick you up at your dads office."

Smiling at David, they go to class.

David was more friendly to others, nodding at people and giving them a nice smile. Many looked over at Stellan as well, but he gave no attention to them, as if he was walking but not really there, his face vacant of any emotion, even looking a bit lost- out of place.

As they both walked into class, Stellans eyes landed on Ruby. Her feet barely made the floor, she swung them while writing down what was on the board, clearly looking bored even though the day just started. She wore a small light purple summer dress along with her long curly hair high in a ponytail- she was cute. As if Ruby sensed a stare she looked up and made direct eye contact with Stellan. And there, he saw her blush creep in, he doesn't know if she is aware of how much emotion she slips out in her eyes but he sees the guilt and a bit of something else he doesn't recognize.

Finally looking away he sat down in his seat and got his work out.

Break hour:

Ruby POV

'God he hates me, why else would he glare at me coming into class?' Ruby thought to herself. Chewing her lip and playing with her hands feeling nervous that there's someone out there that is mad at her- no not just someone, Stellar. Why is she such a failure with cute guys? Making a growl that just sounded like a cry from a little puppy, Ellie looked down at Ruby confused as to what's wrong.

"Hey, you okay?"

"Huh? Oh, it's just. Today in class Stellan glared at me, and I think he hates me!"

"Well, he's probably uncomfortable" putting her arm over Ruby rubbing her shoulder, "Hey, maybe the next time you see him you apologize, and explain, and if he doesn't forgive you then move on, but if he does then all will be well."

"Yes I guess you're right."

"Oh right, I forgot to tell you," Ellie looks into her backpack while speaking, she grabs a piece of paper and continues. "Got to give this to David, he let me borrow it for Calculus class."

"Well seems like you're getting close to David." Ruby nudges her shoulder.

"Hah no we are just good friends, trust me."

"Okayyy" Ruby mocks.

Both laughing while walking to where David hangs out but unbeknownst to them- Stellan was a very good friend of David and was always around him.

"David here's your thing you let me borrow! But you know I didn't reallly need it, but thanks anyways"

David hearing his name turned and was blinded by seeing Ellie, just like everyone in her presence. "You sure about that? Aren't you the one with the 79.9% in the class?" David teases.

"yeah well I'm not the one lost MY pencil within 40 seconds of lending it to you!" Ellie retorts.

"Oh my god can we please forget that I said I'm sorry!"

Ruby laughing at this interaction looks to her left, and there was Stellan walking back from the cafeteria drinking a bottle of water. Enchanted by him looking at his hands and arms, that were flexed and his face that was at just the right angle where you can only see his profile but it was enough to see the smooth curve of his jaw, slight crooked nose, there was a scar on his head she always wondered how it got there. Finishing his water he looked straight ahead at David not spearing a glance at Ruby, making her heart tighten.

Clearing her throat, and mentally preparing herself, she walks up to Stellan before he reaches Ellie and David.

"Hey Stellan! I just really wanted to say sorry about what happened. I really didn't talk shit, if I'm going to be completely honest I only said you glare at people." Ruby babbles, "But what Royce said is true I shouldn't even be in others people business my life isn't pristine either. So I hope you're not mad and accept my apology." Wincing at herself, how could she be anymore weird? Can you even accomplish that?

Stellan smiles down at her, making Ruby's heart do all those funny feelings and making her face heat up and brain freeze. "It's okay." And he walks away to David.

In complete and utter shock she watches him walk away. 'Well he forgave me. But, that's it? I guess, he must tolerate me at least' she thought to herself.

Walking behind him and finally ends up beside Ellie.

"Rubes tell David he isn't dumb, can't get this idiot to accept it." Ellie orders while contradicting herself making ruby laugh.

"God David not this again, I have math with you every year and each time the teacher is more and more impressed!" Rolling her eyes, Ruby wonders how a smart person could be so dumb.

"Just like how our English teacher is impressed with you?" Everyone's eyes are on Ruby, wondering what David is talking about. "Ruby always can point out the grammatical errors and foreshadowing of a novel, can't you rubes?"

Feeling under the spotlight, Ruby sticks her tongue out, making everyone laugh. But it was the laugh of a certain someone that made her world stop and stare at his eyes. What color are they?

"Huh?" Stellan looks down at Ruby with confusion. "My eyes?"

Ruby stares at him, wanting a hole to eat her alive. Did she really just say that out loud?
