My aunt Judith was visting today, I had to head home right after school. My dad made it really clear to not go off with my friends again or be late. And because the universe loves to torture me not only did I forget my phone at home but my stupid old car broke down again. My house is twenty minutes away, if I walk I'll get home by tomorrow.

The only reason I got to a school that's twenty minutes from my house is because I was promised a scholarship if I played basketball for that school.

Why can't my dad just buy me a new car?

I had no other choice but to get a ride, I'm not that far from school someone is bound to pass through here.

I stood at the side of the road and stuck my arm out with my thumb propped up.

A few cars past by ignoring me, I seriously need to get home. I was about to start walking when a grey Toyota mini van pulled over. I looked to see a blonde lady getting off, I saw the passenger had long brunette hair but was covering her face with her hand by shielding their eyes.

"Hi sweetie are you ok? Do need a ride?" The blonde short lady asked.

I nodded kinda embarrassed I had to get a ride home from a stranger.

She motioned for me to get in the van which I did. I wasn't able to see who was in the passenger seat, I sat behind them and tried to look through the side mirror but I didn't have a good angle.

I gave the lady, who's name was Sinu, my directions. This is a good excuse to by a new car.

We pulled over on my drive way. "Thanks again I really appreciate it." I gathered my stuff in my hands, I took out all the important stuff from my car.

"Don't worry about it." I handed Sinu a twenty dollar bill I had saved for lunch. She saw it and pushed it back towards me.

"Oh no sweetie, I wont accept this." I nodded and put it back in my wallet.

"Well, I'm sorry you had to drive me all the way over here." I slid open the door to get out the van.

"Oh it's ok, we live right around the corner anyways." Sinu said as if it were no big deal. This isn't the riches part of town but we're not poor either.

"Oh well, thanks anyways." I closed the door and waved, I never got to see exactly who was in the front seat.

I walked into my house and was met with the smell of chicken. My mom always makes big dinners whenever we have guests. I walked into the family room where I knew my dad was.

"Dad my car broke down." He looked up from the tv.

"What? Not again." He sighed and rubbed his forehead. Yeah this is probably the fifth time my car brakes down and every time my dad pays to get it fixed.

"Why can't you just buy me a new car? That piece of junk has left me stranded on the road five times already."

"Susan, that piece of junk that has taken you to school for the past two years now is Susan."

"Well Susan needs to go." He stood up and breathed out deeply. He walked over to poke his head into the kitchen.

"Clara, I'll be back before Judith gets here." He called to my mom.

"Why, what happened?" My mom walked up to us with a big fork in hand.

"Susan broke down again."

"No surprise." My mom murmured. She also agreed with me that I should get a new car. I maintain my grades up, I stay out of trouble, and I'm getting a scholarship for playing basketball, what else do they want?

My dad sighed, got his keys and walked towards the front door, I followed him to his car.

"Where is she?" He asked referring to 'Susan'. That was his first car so he wanted it to be mine as well. He was the only one that really cared about 'Susan'.

"On the other side of town." He groaned loudly like a little kid. He started the car and off we left for 'Susan'.
