It was a Thursday afternoon. The building was quite given most of its residence had were out for one reason or the other. Well mostly quiet except for one room. Inside room 16, you could hear drawers and doors being opened and banged close again. A small dark skinned girl skipped and ran around, dark curls bouncing every which way as she pulled together her bags and did her last round check to make sure she forgot nothing. Well as much running you could do within 19sqm packed with furniture. Right, not much...or at all. She heard a bang on the wall followed by an angry male voice shout.
"Could you stop that stupid racket. Some people are trying to fucken sleep here." It sounded from the appartment next to hers.
"Sorry" she shouted back, then mumbled to herself "but not sorry," before proceeding with her actions.
"The hell Charlotte? Stop it."
"Why you still in bed and not at work?"
"None of your damn business. Now stop that shit."
"Well excuse you. Ain't ma fault you're home at the wrong time so I'm gonna knock ma shit however I want." She said before banging another drawer harder for good measure.
"You little_"
"Loving your own medicine now Marlo?" She quipped with a a grin .There was a few seconds of silence from the other side before she heard low grumbles and something like 'bitch'. Yeah the walls were kinda thin. Her grin widened. Take that Asshat. She then returned to her inspection. This time taking pity trying to be quieter. The poor idiot was probably nursing a hangover if all the stumbling she heard in the hallway earlier at dawn was any indication.
Charlotte was not a troublesome girl. Far from that actually. She was one of those girls who hated bullshit and would rather avoid confrontation as much as possible. But that didn't mean she could not defend herself (Working with Henry and Ray over the years had its advantages.)
Marlo was just one of the few things that really got on her nerves. The boy was something else. He partied a lot and came back home late most nights. With different girls too who got to be his assistants in giving her perfect audio lessons of what the 'horizontal tango' sounded like. Everyone their own rhythm. All to her detriment. She honestly didn't want all those words and sounds which could be used during sex to describe satisfaction. Or the different things that turned Malo or those girls on and made them happy. She basically knew all the boy's weak points. Uurrggh, she shivered in disgust. If it wasn't the sex he had friends over causing a racket. If not that. He is blasting music so loud she wondered if he could even hear himself think. No concern at all for the poor neighbors(well she heard most of it being his closest neighbor). He practically drove her out of her apartment. Had caused her sleepless nights which she wisely used to study at the library. Her love life was practically non existent, time with friends were more of a luxury and her time was divided between work and school so...yeah no traffics there. It did feel good to get back at him for once.
But now all those lonely times were finally over. All the toil and sweat, sleepless nights with gallons of coffee and pouring over tons of books had finally paid off. She had finally obtained her masters. She was finally leaving New York for good. Don't get her wrong, the town was lively, vibrant and really fun. She loved her first 4 to her last 2 years at NYU. But New Yorkers were just really weird. In a confusing kinda way and she really missed her friends and town. No more short calls and catching short hellos here and there on video chats or tapes. She could finally see and touch them after these last two years.
While pursuing her bachelors degree she returned home between seasons. But during her masters, she had descided to move out of the campus dormitories and found a small pre-furnished student accommodation close to school. It was tiny and everything was within 10steps. But it was just okay, comfortable and her space (well not including all the sounds from Marlo's side.) And according to the standard of living in NYC this was gold. She had been ridding on a full scholarship so savings over the years came in handy.
