I was taken back when Sam kissed me. I didn't know what to do, I just walked past him and ran to the kitchen to ask his mother if she needed any help.
"Hey Emma, what's up?" Mrs Clark asks with a smile, I shake my head and put on a fake smile. Nothing your son just kissed me.
"I just wanted to see if you wanted any help with dinner?" She shook her head. "No honey, dinner is just about ready. Thanks for asking though."
"Thank you for letting me stay Mrs Clark-"
"Oh please, call me Amelia, and it's the least I could do for you. Your parents and I were very close back in high school, in fact Ben and Lily's parents were our friends as well. We were all in a group."
"What were they like back then?" I ask curiously, her smile turns wider. I want to know what it they were like before everything went to shit and they started fighting.
"Your parents were very different from each other back then. Your father was the football team captain and your mother was student body president. It's a pretty funny story actually because they absolutely hated each other at first. But once your father's grades started slipping, the school gave your mother to him as a tutor, and soon enough they started to fall for each other. He introduced us to her formally and that's how we all became great friends."
"Did you guys lose touch?"
"Unfortunately yes, but it was right after your parents moved to LA. When I heard from your mother again I was so happy to hear that you were all moving back. You should be with her at a time like this-"
"Unfortunately she doesn't want me anymore. I know it sounds harsh but a lot of things happened back home that made her hate me. And the accident only made her hate me more when in fact it was not my fault, it was my sister's. That's the reason I was in the cemetery. I guess it all finally got to me and I just exploded, I called Sam because he calmed me down the other night when I got news about my brother whereas Lily and Ben seem to have this perfect life that I knew wouldn't be right if I was a part of it by living with them. I don't know what to do." A tear fell down my face, she shook her head and wiped it away.
"Emma if there's one thing I learned after my husband passed it was that you should not push those close to you away. If you have become close with Lily and Ben and you think you can trust them then talk to them and tell them what's really going on. Tell them what you feel inside, not what you think they should hear. And if you need anything, Sam and I will be happy to give it to you."
I couldn't help but hug her tightly. She's like the mother I never had. "Thank you. You have no idea how much this means to me." She rubbed my back and smiled. "No problem sweetie. Can you go upstairs and tell the kids that dinner is ready?" I nod and made my way upstairs.
I knocked on the door that the kids were playing in only to see that they were both playing so nicely together. I wish it had been like this with Claire, but she had to take everything away.
"Hey kids, sorry to interrupt but your mom sent me to tell you that dinner is ready." They both shared a look and went darting past me. Next I had to go to Sam's room. Great.
I don't understand why he kissed me and frankly I don't care. All I want is to forget it ever happened and continue our friendship. Before I knocked on his door, I couldn't help but listen in on his conversation.
"I don't know why I did it Lily it just happened! Ugh why do I have to ruin everything! She's going to think that I tried taking advantage of her and she's never gonna want to speak to me again."
That was when I knocked on the door. He muttered a quiet "gotta go" and hung up the phone. "Hey..." He said nervously, I chuckled.
"Hey. Your mom sent me to tell you that dinner is ready."
"Before anything I would like to apologize for my behavior earlier. It was a spur of the moment thing and I-"
"It's okay Sam I'm not gonna rip your head off. I was panicking and you didn't know what else to to in order to get me to stop. Let's just forget it ever happened and start our Parker Lily plan after dinner." He smiled and nodded as we made our way downstairs.

"So explain to me why you have Eric, Jake and Luke's answers here?" Sam started to chuckle, I rolled my eyes. "Well I couldn't exactly go up to him and be like hey I'm Emma. I know you're in love with my best friend so let me ask you questions about yourself to see if you two are compatable... So instead I set up a fake survey and to cover my tracks I had to ask them as well." By this point he started full on laughing, I couldn't help but admire him.Stop it Emma.
"Well it worked didn't it? What did you find out from Lily?"
"I don't know I didn't ask her anything." I punch his arm. "Ow! What was that for?"
"You were supposed to ask her questions!" He shakes his head and chuckles. "I already know things about her, I've known her my whole life. Her favorite movie genres are horror and romance, her favorite ice cream is chocolate chip, her favorite band is five seconds of summer, her favorite flowers are lilac roses, her favorite desert is chocolate chip cookies, and her go to first date would be a night under the stars just talking."
"I'm guessing you know everything about Parker too?" He starts laughing harder as he nods, I glare at him and start hitting him. "Do you know how humiliating that was for me! After the questions I had to sit there and listen to them talk about how I should date either you or Ben." The look on his face went from happy to serious.
"Did they say anything else?" I shake my head, he sighs out of relief, I give him a questioning look. "Oh I see, it looks like mr popular has some secrets. It's okay Sam I'm not gonna ask or grill you for them. So how are we going to set up this date?"
"We'll definitely do what you said about Friday. I was thinking we could set up lights around the trees in the park and put a blanket on the grass and make a basket full of food for them."
"That sounds awesome. You got a romantic side to you, I like it." I replied with a smile, he nodded and chuckled. "Yeah. I guess it's because my sister made me watch romance movies with her before she got a boyfriend. It was torture but it helped up my game."
"Yeah okay sure." I replied sarcastically, he glared at me. "What? Are you saying I don't have game?"
"That's exactly what I'm saying. After all when I first met you, you were all like: and who might you be sweet thang?" I mock, he rolls his eyes. "It usually works-"
"With who? Hookers?" He looked so shocked, I couldn't help but laugh harder and harder as his face turned red from embarrassment. "I tried sounding sexy." He pouts, I shake my head and catch my breath.
"Honey that is not sexy. That's a failed porno. You want to be sexy then do romantic gestures for a girl. Girls find that sexy all the time. Don't act like a douchebag to impress the girls."
"I'll try. But for now let's focus the romance on Lily and Parker's date." I nod as he smiles. "Alright, but after their date we are going to make you understand girls."
"Deal."
