Ilvermorny has a passion for wizard's baseball and Quodpot, but Quidditch is the most popular and dominant sport at the school. It is considered to be some of the best Quidditch in the Western Hemisphere. However, the sport has gained a reputation for being one of the most violent and brutal versions of Quiddtch in the world due to its intense hand-to-hand combat. Unfortunately, there have been some fatalities during the matches. Nonetheless, fighting is allowed, and the players teach each other how to defend themselves and fight back on the Quidditch pitch. The American and Canadian Wizarding Worlds have learned from No-Maj games such as ice hockey, baseball, football, basketball, soccer, hurling, boxing, and mixed-martial arts and incorporated elements of those games into Quidditch, creating a truly American style. This version of Quidditch has been frowned upon by the rest of the world. The American style of Quidditch has a few differences; Like ice hockey, players can call for substitutions. It's called player rotation. Player rotation is an advanced strategy where players regularly interchange positions during the game. This tactical maneuver is aimed at confusing the opposition and exploiting space on the field. Instead of the standard 7 players, each squad is made up of 25 players.

The United States is a nation whose evolution has been marked by violence and bloodshed and this has greatly affected the evolution of Quidditch in the country. It is also the most competitive and intense in the world. It's very fast and very dangerous. Quidditch came to Ilvermorny during the 18th century by a band of Hogwarts students traveling on a round-the-world tour spreading the gospel of the Wizarding World's Grand Game. The first official season began in the autumn of 1762. The tradition of having the final on the 4th of July began in 1776, to coincide with America's independence from Great Britain.

The school originally had matches at an old stadium in nearby Williamstown, located northwest of the castle. In 1775, a brand new stadium was built in Steward Square and would be used for the next 250 years. It has been renovated and contemporized overtime constantly. The cup has had its share of stars. Including Ariel Singleton, the youngest and longest-serving Seeker in American Quidditch history who would later be called up to the National Team at 16. She retired in 2002 and became the flying teacher at Ilvermorny, as well as Gianni Fidele, Darius Smackhammer, Arsenia Gonzales, Debbie Muntz, and Quentin Kowalski, who helped lead his nation to the semi-finals of the 2014 Quidditch World Cup. In 1915, Thunderbird played Horned Serpent in what would become the longest Quidditch match in school history, lasting about two months, with both teams bringing on substitutes so that the players could get some sleep. Among the participants were future Auror Porpentina Goldstein, and soon-to-be MACUSA President Seraphina Picquery. Today, the stadium also serves as the main playing field for Ilvermorny's other sports, including hurling, Gaelic football, soccer, rugby, and lacrosse. Since the castle is located on Mount Greylock, the grounds are too small to accommodate a Quidditch stadium. As a result, the games are held at Isolt Sayre Memorial Stadium at Steward Square, where the town's citizens regularly attend.

Cliff Murdoch has been the play-by-play announcer for over 40 years, calling more than 5,000 Quidditch matches during his long career. He's a fan favorite at the school and was elected into the Ilvermorny Quidditch Hall of Fame for his many accomplishments. He was sorted into Thunderbird and always cheers for his beloved Ilvermorny House every game. He currently resides in Cheshire, Massachusetts.

Each of the four Houses has its own style of play which sets it apart from the others and further reflects its core values:

Thunderbird: Ferocious, tactical, reckless, offensive
Horned Serpent: strategic, graceful, architectural
Wampus: Aggressive, brazen, exciting, impulsive
Pukwudgie: Slow-paced, defensive, tenacious, fair play

The Ilvermorny Quidditch Cup

The Ilvermorny Quidditch Cup is similar to The Hogwarts Cup. It takes the form of a mini-league, with each house team playing each other throughout the year. This results in three games for each team, and six games of Quidditch for the school to enjoy overall. As there are such small games, each is eagerly anticipated and usually attended by the entire school, including the teachers. When it comes to Quidditch at Ilvermorny, some professors lose their normal calm demeanor and become as excited about the result as the students. Commentary is provided on each game.

Unlike at Hogwarts, the best two teams will compete against each other in a final winner-take-all match, rather than the total amount of points won overall matches. The Quidditch Cup itself is an enormous, silver trophy cup with the four Houses' emblematic animals as the handles. On the bottom is a Celtic knot design with a golden shamrock at its center. The Cup is traditionally kept in the office of the champions' Head Of House.

Quidditch Pitch

Ilvermorny has its own Quidditch pitch where the teams can practice, hold tryouts, and play matches against each other. The stadium has been constantly renovated over time. Each year, there are six inter-house matches, two playoff matches, and one final match played on Independence Day, along with numerous training sessions by each house team. The stands surrounding the pitch are decorated differently for each game at Ilvermorny. Every second stand is decorated with one team's colors, and every other stand with the opposing team's colors, with spectators sitting in between these stands. The supporters for each house watch the game from each side of the end zone.
