CHAPTER 5
I woke up on the couch with Matt hovering over me. Too disoriented to be shocked I tried to sit up. Matt saw what I was trying to do and started to help me up. Without any warning, tears started to stream down my face again. "They're gone.", I said brokenly. He wraps his arms around me and pulls me to his lap.
"Shhh now," Matt whispers as he runs his fingers through my hair."Its going to okay, everything's going to be okay", he says once again. "But they're gone. Mom's never comming home.", I sob brokenly. He's t-shirt was already soaked from my tears. He cups my chin with his forefinger and thumb and tilts my head up so that I'm looking at him.
"I'll be here to protect you, take care of you, Avery, I'll keep you safe." , he promises, his face soft and sincere. I couldn't talk. My voice was caught somewhere in my throat. All I could do was cry, and he just held me in his arms through the night.
