Chapter Fourteen

The plot-twist everyone saw coming

I passive aggressively bit into my food, growing even angrier as the delicious flavors spread across my tongue. Around me, the table was alight with life despite my constant struggle to kill it.

Yao pulled more food from his backpack and handed it out as Alfred happily stuffed more chinese delicacies into his mouth (and pockets but he doesn't know I saw that). Arthur sat to my left, a surprising smile on his face as he talked to Tino about his time here, sliding in a few jabs at Francis in between responses.

Even Lovino seemed content at the mall table. He didn't complain once as Yao handed him a share of the food, mumbling a grumpy 'that's right, feed me asshole' that Yao decided to ignore. The nations sat in a bubble of happiness while I angrily slouched in my uncomfortable food court chair. This is unfair. Life is unfair.

I was mad--nay, furious. I had found out that another one of my close friends was actually the fucking nation of Finland. Why the hell would Finland be here?

I ripped another angry bite from my sandwich; chewing intensely to portray my fury. I can't even describe how pissed off I am anymore.

At first, I had been sad. Betrayal was the only word I could associate with the pain in my chest, feeling like a thousand ripping chords of my heart. But then, it faded into something else. A question: why hadn't they told me? Who else is keeping a secret from me? Do I have to wait until Arthur sees them to figure out they're actually a nation?

Okay, so there were multiple questions but that's not the point!

I'd realized feeling sorry for myself wasn't helping me get rid of the annoying nations. So I decided to be angry instead. I'm more productive when I'm angry anyway.

I'll just be angry until these annoying, lying, secret-keeping, loud, funny, good looking- Angry! I am angry at them! I ate another bite of my food with an exaggerated frown to prove it.

"What'd the food ever do to you? No need to attack it, asshole." Lovino chimed in from beside me. The frown receded slightly as I turned to him. He actually looked, calm? Never thought I'd use that word to describe him.

It seems during our two hours apart, everyone had found a new outfit. A welcome distraction from their flashy uniforms. Lovino had gotten a white long-sleeved shirt and a pair of blue jeans. A simple outfit which I much preferred to the weird uniform he was wearing earlier.

"You're right. I shouldn't be mad at the food. The food didn't lie to me for two years about who he was or that he was actually a personified landmass." I said, voice growing more pointed as I went on. Lovino rolled his eyes.

"Hey, don't take you exaggerated anger out on me. I'm stuck in the same fucking boat as you." He said, taking a calmer bite of his food. The frown returned. Thanks a lot, Lovino. Not like I needed another reason to be angry anyway.

Usually, when I discovered that my friends were actually land masses in clothes, I got some sort of explanation. New information about the fucked up situation I call my life. But now, I already knew the backstory. There's wasn't anything to learn. Just another disappointment in the form of a Finnish man in a sweater. Unless...

"Tino. What's the groupchat." I asked, not caring if I interrupted the conversation. Tino's sentence stopped the moment I asked, leaving Arthur to wonder what his original response would have been.

"A group chat? I think you must have misheard me-"

"Tino, we both know not to mess with me right now." I snapped, catching my tone.
