Chapter Thirty-Four
Change Your Mind
"This will hurt like a bitch."
Vladimir warned me of the dangers. But I ignored them. Not accepted, I ignored them.
I'd experienced high school and survived. Four years of emotional confusion paired with some really big assholes must have been a good amount of pain.
When I was twelve, I got a horrible case of the flu and survived. A week of hacking up phlegm and barely being able to stay conscious for an hour before passing out again with a beating headache. That was a huge amount of pain.
Though, I didn't think of those moments until after my decision was made. Ways of making myself feel better about planning my own death. When Vladimir warned me of the pain, all I could think of was Carla. The feeling of emptiness as she turned around and I knew it wasn't the girl I'd lived with for years. That hurt like a bitch. At that moment, I thought if I could get through that and still be standing- sitting, then I could get through anything.
So I agreed to the 'power transfer' or whatever the proper term is, not thinking past pushing the words from my mouth.

The room grew stiff as I waited for Mrs. Adams response. I'd agreed to the transfer so why were we still sitting here in awkward silence? Or maybe I didn't actually agree to the transfer at all and the whole thing was a daydream that got way to realistic. I opened my mouth to start the scene once again but Vladimir spoke for me.
"How many magicians do we need for the transfer? I only know three, including myself, and every transfer I've read of usually includes at least six for stabilization-"
"This transfer works differently." Mrs. Adams cut off Vlad's rambling. He tilted his head and went to continue the explanation of a power transfer but I placed a hand on his shoulder, a silent signal to let her speak.
Mrs. Adams took a deep breath before continuing, "A usual power transfer is only on the physical level. A movement of magical energy from one being to another that will be used over time. What we're doing isn't a mere transfer of magical energy. ___ will be embodying the spirit of Nature itself. The mortal energy inside with mix with the energy of nature, effectively changing them into a new form entirely. So all of the powers of Nature will be there but it will no longer be my energy going into their body, it will become their energy." She finished, folding her hands in her lap to punctuate the explanation.
Vladimir nodded along with widened eyes. He understood exactly what would be happening and how it was different from other similar processes. I, on the other hand, had no clue what could have happened or what was happening.
That's because you have zero cognitive ability.
Wonderful help, now I understand everything.
Start paying attention, dumbass. Think of it like paint. If you mix red and white paint you get pink. It's not completely red but it's not completely white. It's a new color that has both red and white in it.
You didn't have to be so rude about it.
And you don't have to be such an airhead but sometimes things don't work out.
"So what's the first step?" I asked, trying to actually be engaged in the conversation about my own mortality.
"To hold the spirit of Nature, a body must be connected both to the world and to itself." She began.
Vladimir nudged me in the side, "Great, you're already half done." He whispered in my ear. I knocked his elbow aside with mine and refocused. He wasn't wrong though. If knowing the nations meant I was connected with the world then I was probably the most connected person in the world. Let's hope that's the meaning because I don't have time to go on a three year hike to connect with the earth.
