Chapter 6

Harry

October 15, 2013

Okay, sigh, right, sigh.

That is what goes through my head as Louis sits in a daze beside me while I assemble the necessary ingredients for sandwich making. It’s okay, he doesn’t hate me.

“Ya know, being gay isn’t anything to hide.” Louis speaks up, so I lift my gaze to his face from the cream-cheese-covered bread on the chopping board. “You could’ve told me, I wouldn’t have been ashamed or, like, dissed you or anything. I know another person, a, uh, friend. He’s gay.”

“Yeah?” I question, brightening up a tad at that. “Who?”

“Oh, um. No one you know. A guy from home.” He sounds slightly awkward, maybe an odd situation with the particular guy. I don’t know.

“Right.” I confirm, continuing to construct the sandwiches. “Ham?” I question, talking sandwiches to ease the thick tension.

“Yeah, thanks.” Louis agrees.

I hand him the sandwich on a plate, and we head back to the living room, sitting on the couch. We eat in silence; I’m just silently analyzing what’s happened today. It’s a lot to take in, and a lot to worry about.

We finish eating, and Louis pipes up.

“Sorry to love you and leave you, mate, but I feel as if I’d better be getting back. I’ve only got a couple more days with El, and I miss her when we’re away. So.” He says, and I nod my head, admittedly deflated.

“Yeah, okay. See ya, Lou.” I rise from the couch with him to send him off. We walk towards the front door, and when we reach it, Louis turns around to face me with his arms spread wide. I step into his embrace and bend my head down to kind of nuzzle his neck. He wraps me tightly in his arms, and I marvel in his warmth and strength.

“Haz. You’re perfect - never forget that. Never let anyone tell you otherwise, because they’re wrong.” Louis says earnestly, hugging me tighter. “Being gay isn’t something to be ashamed of. It’s just you. You’re still Harry.”

“I know,” I reply quietly, hugging him back almost tighter. “But you’d better go.”

“Yeah,” he seems almost sad for a second. “I love you.”

“Love you too, Lou.”
