“AAHHHHHHHH!!!!!” I screamed.  Somewhere in the back of my mind, I registered several other people entering the room, but I paid them no mind.  I was still concentrating on not letting the regeneration go wrong – because that can actually happen.

Suddenly, everything stopped.  I fell to my knees, drained.

“Sarah?” I heard a voice calling uncertainly.

That’s weird,” I said.  “I even hear differently!  Oh, geez, and this mouth!” I looked up.  It turns out the people that had come in during my regeneration were none other than our traveling companions, Amy, Rory and Brent.

“And my eyes!  Oh great, if I end up having to wear glasses, I’m going to be so annoyed!”

I looked at everybody, judging their reactions.  The Doctor was smirking like he knew everything would be all right, although I’ll definitely be telling everyone later about how much he was panicking earlier.  Amy and Rory were only slightly surprised while Brent was looking as though his head was going to explode.

I climbed shakily to my feet.  Swaying slightly, I said, “Whoa, I’m taller – what? Oh, this is so weird!  How do you get used to this?”

Suddenly, I remembered what had happened.  The realisation was harsh and I almost fell over again.  But I didn’t.  I swayed slightly, yes, but that was all.  I regained my balance and looked at Brent.  “You!” I yelled.  “You did this to me!” I rushed over to him.  “I’m going to kill you!”

“Gee, it was only a bit of teasing, we didn’t really think you had a crush- ”

“No!  No!” I was actually screaming now.  “Stay away!”

“What? Why?”

“You …you….” I couldn’t get the words out, but the more I tried, the more I began to register what had happened.  I was scared.  I backed away – more like stumbled – from him, eyes wide, not looking at anything else.

He moved forward.  “No!” I said, loudly.  “Stay away from me!  Stay away!”

I was still backing away, but my legs hit the couch and I fell onto it.  I started crying.  Why was I doing that?  I heard someone come over to me.  I looked up, afraid it was Br – afraid it was that killer, but it wasn’t.  It was the Doctor.

“Sarah,” he said cautiously, “what happened?”  He sat down beside me and I could do nothing but lean into him.  He put his arms around me in a comforting gesture and I cried a little bit more.

When my sobbing had been reduced to simple sniffs, I realised the room was unusually quiet.  Looking up, I was made aware that it was empty.

“Doctor?” I asked.  My voice was scratchy and weak from all the crying I’d been doing.

“It’s ok,” he said.  Customary response.

“No, but… where did Amy and Rory and the other one go?” I can’t use his name anymore.

“They left soon after you… Well, soon before my jacket and shirt were soaked.”

I gave a watery chuckle.

He pulled back a little.  “Are you ready to tell me what happened?”

I took a deep breath and began.

When I finished, he looked very grim.  It was not an expression I had often seen on his face and it was one I hoped never to see again.

“Well,” he said finally.  I waited, but he didn’t continue.
