I turned and bolted. The corridor was straight and long, and despite the fact that I was running full speed, there was no end in sight. I glanced back every few seconds, hoping that the light was further away, that it was slowly disappearing, but no such luck. It seemed to be moving at the same speed as I was. It kept the distance between it and me the same. I stumbled slightly and focused once again on looking ahead.

Finally, after a very long time, I saw a door at the end of the corridor.

“Doctor!” I shouted breathlessly. “There’s… a … door…”

“Don’t talk, just run! That’s the door you want. Hurry!”

I put on an extra bit of speed and nearly collided with the door. In fact, I thought I was going to, but just as I crashed, the door swung open and I dashed through, into the brightness of the console room. The door slammed shut behind me. I looked back, fearful that the light was coming through, but the door had disappeared completely.

Out of breath, I turned back and stumbled down the stairs. Amy, Rory and the Doctor were all standing around the console, watching me. I lay facedown on the floor.

“I don’t like running,” I said finally, once my breath had somewhat returned to me.

“It’s healthy for you,” Rory pointed out.

I lifted my head and glared at him. “You go run what I just ran and tell me it’s healthy.”

“Alright, enough whining,” the Doctor intervened before Rory could say anything else.

“Doctor,” Amy said. “You need to tell her about the light.”

“Yeah,” I agreed, sitting up. “What’s the light?”

The Doctor sighed. “The light is actually … How do I explain this… You remember that crack in the wall that you saw?”

I nodded.

He beckoned me to the screen. I stood up and walked over to it.

“Did it look anything like these?”

On the screen were various pictures of a crack in the wall: Different locations, all of them, but they were the exact same crack.

“Yeah, that was exactly the one I saw,” I told him. “What is it?”

“A crack in the skin of the universe.”

“Care to elaborate?” I prompted when the Doctor didn’t continue.

“There was… an explosion. It caused the Universe to be destroyed. It’s a long story. But I fixed it, they were all gone. So why are they back now?” The Doctor turned to the console, and began pressing buttons.

“Doctor!” I said, recapturing his attention before it disappeared completely. “You said it was dangerous?”

“Ah, yes, right,” the Doctor said, spinning back round to face me. “If you are swallowed by the light, you are completely erased from existence.” My mouth fell open and he just smiled.

“It happened to me,” Rory said.

“What?” I asked, turning to him. “But you’re here?”

He nodded. “I came back.”

“How-?”

“We don’t have time for that, not right now,” the Doctor interrupted. “There are bigger problems here. Like, for example, how are the cracks still here and how did they get inside my TARDIS?”

“Not to mention,” I added. “Where’s the Brent-Demonn and how am I suddenly visible again?”

The other three turned to me.

“What?” The Doctor asked quietly.

“Um… About an hour ago, I locked Brent in his room cos he was scaring me, then he turned into his true form and made me invisible to him so that only he could see me, then I went into that room with the tiles and -”

“Sarah,” the Doctor said. “That was months ago.”

“What? What? No, it… it couldn’t have been. I… No!” I was at a loss for words and, apparently, coherency.

“Yes it was,” Amy told me.

“But… What happened, then? Where’s the Demonn? What happened to Brent?”

“Did someone call for me?” A voice said from behind me.

I turned around, and there stood my murderer.

“What are you doing here?!” I cried, stepping back.

“Nice to see you, too,” Brent said, frowning slightly.

“What are you doing here?” I repeated. I turned to the Doctor. “What is he doing here?”

The Doctor frowned. “There is something very, very wrong here.” I had a feeling he wasn’t referring to Brent being in the room. “Sarah,” the Doctor began. “We need to figure out what’s wrong with you.”

“Wrong with me?!” I exclaimed, outraged. “What’s wrong with you? You let a murderer in here!” I yelled, pointing at Brent.

“Whoa,” Brent said, holding his hands up defensively. “I haven’t ever killed anyone. Chill.”

I rounded on him. “Don’t tell me to chill, idiot! You…” I took a breath to calm myself. “In your future, you… Something happens to you. Something that changes you, and you come to my house, and you stab me with a dagger. That causes me to regenerate. That’s why I look different, see?” I gestured at my face. “And my question,” I said, turning back to the Doctor, “Is why he is still allowed on board!”

We fall into silence.

“Sarah,” the Doctor said finally. “We’ve been through this. It’s not actually Brent that kills you, remember? He was controlled, you remember, by that parasite he picked up on Mens Rea?”

I frowned. “What? He picked up a parasite on Mens Rea?”

“Why don’t you remember?” Amy asked.

“Remember?” I asked her. “It hasn’t happened!”

“Yes it has!”

“No it-”

“Alright, stop it!” The Doctor yelled finally. “Sarah, it did happen. I was there. You were there. We all were.”

“Then why don’t I have the memory of it? For me, I only just escaped the Brent-Demonn and the crack in the wall!”

“You escaped the Demonn months ago, Sarah. The crack in the wall, yes, that was just now, but - ”

“Wait, wait, wait. Why was I even so far in the TARDIS?”

“There is a huge gap in your memory, Sarah. We need to find away to get it back.”

“Get what back?” Asked another voice. I turned around.

“What the hell is going on?” Brent said, looking between the newcomer and me.

“Well,” the Doctor said. “This just got interesting.”

So. There were two of me. Again.
