Logan's pov.

"Why are you fucking with me?" I roared at the Alpha who was in my office inspecting the paperwork on my desk.

"I am obviously not fucking with you." the bold Alpha grinned wickedly "Someone else is."

I sighed. "Why were you commanding me to come here when I was obviously busy?" I glared at the Alpha looking through my files. Anyone else would be dead by now.

"Because I can." Victor said casually leaning back in my office chair.

"Stop touching my things and tell me what news you got." I said impatiently.

"The incident you asked me to investigate on. It's quite difficult to find information about it." the Alpha retorted.

"It is. Otherwise I wouldn't have asked for your help. My beta couldn't find anything on it. So I had hoped you could find something." I admitted.

Victor yawned at my explanation "Seriously, Chris told me already. Tell me something new." the cheeky Alpha retorted.

Chris, Chris... I let him have a few days of to spend with his mate and he still manages to do business. That man!

"I have no news. Tell me what you got." I demanded to know.

The Alpha leaning against my desk ignored my demand and explained "The mother of your Luna was murdered by one single attack and was abducted earlier. Even a blind man can see that both incidents are connected to each other. She was most likely abducted in your territory. Your father was not quite polite to intruders. Let alone rogues who kidnap a member of his pack." I wasn't convinced. Even the most perfect pack had a weakness after all. "Our neighboring packs are not involved in that matter. I found nothing suspicious. Seeing that it was a single attack I'd say it was someone from your pack, Logan." Victor's blue eyes stared at me. I crossed my arms in front of my chest.

"Furthermore I inspected the diary you lend me." Victor browsed through the brown diary Lauren had studied lately carefully not tearing a page. I had lend the cheeky Alpha the diary to find something we couldn't see. That very action proved how much I trusted Victor the 21 year old stubborn Alpha of the neighboring Lightning pack. Chris and Victor these two were the closest I could call friends.

"And? You found something?" I asked eagerly. "Seriously, that woman wrote riddles..." Victor mumbled. "I think we agree on the fact that she was abused or even raped by her abductors?" Victor raised an eyebrow at me.

I nodded "Something traumatic happened. Something she could not handle afterwards." that Lauren and I could say.

"The only thing we can say for sure is when she wrote what."

"What do you mean?" I queried.

"Well, since that woman dated every single one of her entries even the conversations she led." Victor showed me single pages Lauren's mom had used to write a few words on "We can tell when she was abducted, therefore also when she escaped."

"So what?" I asked impatiently.

"Well, since noone of us can make sense of the messages she left behind I focused on the outward appearances." the blonde Alpha knocked on the diary.

I looked at the shabby diary. No way...

"Don't underestimate my approach!" blue eyes pierced at me accusingly. "I inspected the ink she used." the Alpha said finally.

The ink? Out of all things I had not paid attention to small matters like the damn ink.

"You can tell that she used the same ink from when she was at home and whereever she was when she was kidnapped." the Alpha continued "That strengthened my suspicion that she was abducted within your territory. It's just common ink. Nothing special. Even though the ink at her home was more cheap and therfore brighter it's still the same ink. So I focused on the loose pages she wrote on while she was abducted." Victor held up one of those pages. "Let me say that I was more successful with that research. The material the paper was made of... truly interesting."

"What do you mean?" I looked closer at the yellowish paper even holding it up. There was nothing suspicious. "The paper is ordinary."

Victor snorted "Ordinary for you, stinky Alpha! Not for outsiders. Take me for example. I am not familiar with that paper. We use thicker paper made of different wood in my pack. That's why the material of the paper caught my attention. So I did some research on it. This paper was produced in your territory. The trees to produce this kind of paper can only be found in your pack. Today everyone in your pack can get this paper. However 20 years ago this paper was hard to find and therefore really pricy in your pack. I found out that people of high positions in your pack used this 'special' paper back then... a different one than the commoners used. Guess where the trees to make this paper grew mostly 20 years ago?" Victor asked me like a teacher a student. "No idea." I admitted

"You won't like this for sure... the trees grew mainly around the packhouse." Victor paused. "From what I found out I can guarantee that the abductor is no outsider, no rogue as you assumed but a pack member of yours. More precisely someone from the packhouse regarding how expencive the paper used to be." Victor held up one of my papers I left on my desk and put it next to one page of the diary. There was no doubt that the paper was the same. "I am also convinced that it's someone with a high rank." Victor looked at me expecting any reaction.

We understood eachother without any words on that matter. Killing the woman of a village major without getting caught... whoever was behind that was influential enough to make the murderer get away with it.

"How can you be sure that it was not on purpose? The use of that paper? Maybe someone from a neighboring pack wants to mislead the investigators!" I challenged.

Victor darted a disdainful look at me "Definitely not! They were not expecting for her to escape. Actually I am sure that they had planned to kill her sooner or later within their hiding place. Otherwise why bother to kill her when she had escaped, when they planned to mislead someone?"

"You got that point." I nodded.

Victor pat my back "Buddy, I'll leave that matter to you. Find the scumbag who did that and kill him!"

Unnecessary to say that I was planning on doing that!
