~Lance~

Lance was in another auction house. Again. The places they kept them was anything but sanitary and of course, they forced them all into cute little forms that were appealing.  Lance was in the form of a little red fox and stuck in a crude wire cage. Only a dirty sheet that used to be white covered it. It was winter and the room all the shapeshifters were in had no heater. They were all shaking and making painful noises. It was known that this certain auction house was crueler to the 'animals' in it. Lance growled at the thought and drifted off into a nightmarish sleep, his body not able to take the strain of the cold and pain.

Lance was in Cuba. He and his siblings were playing in the ocean and laughing. His mother, as beautiful as ever, was watching them. Lance was smiling and laughing, having a wonderful time. Then the skies grew dark and everything went black. Next thing he knew he was tied to the wall and crying. He remembered of this memory. Lance was 4 years old. His very first owner walked to him and unchained him, only to throw him to the floor and kick him. Lance whimpered and yelp before the breath was knocked out of him. "How dare you try to run away!" She screamed and kicked him again, making him curl up and cry more. "It's time for you to learn what collars do" She forced one on him and grinned. "Shift into a Poodle." She commanded and Lance tried to refuse. Not a good idea. Lance felt the collar tighten around his neck and choke him. He tried to breathe and yank off the contraption but the collar's tightness stopped him from doing that. He cried more and finally gave up, shifting into a Poodle.

The scene changed and Lance was 5. It was his first auction. He had been put in the form of a holland lop bunny and had his hated blue collar on. He hadn't learned how to take it off yet and feared he never would. He had just been auctioned off to a nicer looking man but he soon learned that he was not that nice. The man was named Marco. He beat him and in only a few months he was being auctioned again. And thus it continued in his own twisted circle of life. Once his unknown powers started to show he was beaten more for not getting better results and sold for higher.

When he woke up he could only watch as another shifter was taken out and sold. That happened all night. His kind was taken and sold to be someone's pet. It was disgusting. His thoughts drifted off to when he had actually been a hero to the others. They called him their fighter. He took the name and put it to purpose once he heard it too. He fought his owners and freed as many shapeshifters as he could. Although he never was free himself and knew that would never be the case since he was so valuable he could only hope for someone who would actually respect him and not treat him like an animal. Although that was almost unheard of with shapeshifters. Lance had given up trying to find one by now. After 15 years of it, of course, he would. Who wouldn't? He was taken from his thoughts to the door slamming and his last companion leaving to be auctioned off. He was the last one in the cold room. He always was and always would be. They always saved the best for last.

Once the last shapeshifter was sold, it was Lance's turn. They roughly took the cage and brought him into the fancy auction room. He was taken out of the cage and shown off to the crowd with gasps and fingers pointing. The man holding him began to speak in a loud voice "This fine shapeshifter, ladies and gentleman, is a rare one. He has a human form and can change how old he appears to be!" More gasping and whispers. Lance hated this although he knew the drill well. "And that's not all! He can also change his size and the best part is he can change into all the different breeds of all the different species of animal! His bidding starts at one million dollars!"

Too many noises. It was too loud. Lance's sensitive ears hurt and he whimpered quietly. People started bidding on him and it was much too loud. He saw a man with a mullet raise his card with the number he was given and called out a number. Lance was shocked. The stupid number was ten million. Then a man with long white hair raised his card and said another big number. Fifteen million.
