It was night, where a lot of people were getting into sleep. The streets were empty, cats were standing on the garbage, cars had their headlights off and the police people were on taking care of the road. The weather was wet with the little raindrops and fog on some parts of the route.
On the contradictory hour for Aminah, it was cold. So cold, that it might quickly come to end. It was also gloomy and disturbing at the same time. While under sleep, she was having a dream: a dream about a drunken man who used to come to a child's house and hit her with his belt.
"Please daddy! Stop" the child cried.
Aminah was so disturbed in the dream that she woke up all of a sudden. She continuously huffed while she got up from the bed and was reminded of a sorrow that haunted her but was so vague that she could not even remember the reason. The horrifying dream led her to the midst of the rooftop.
Little did she knew, Mr. Jabbar-the landlord was walking through the stair while coming out from his office. To further mention, he used to work in a biscuit company as a senior manager. Therefore, he had to come late as most factories were far away from the city. In the present, he saw Aminah and secretly followed her through the rooftop.
She stepped into the near end of the roof. She thought it as an escape from her misery and disastrous life. On the contrary, she never knew that her life just begun because her heart never want her to die. Aminah's rage was hidden that she could never be expressed but was covered by Antara. Her childish innocence and naivety was overshadowed by Antara. She felt scared and had less feelings. She was about to jump without any consciousness.
Until,
"AMINAH MARCIA KHAN! GET BACK FROM THE ROOFTOP!" screamed a familiar voice.
Aminah got back to her senses. She looked back and saw two familiar men- Dr. Jehangir and his son, Shezan. Aminah slowly got back from the near end and stood in front of them. Both panted while coming up from the stairs. When Aminah looked at Shezan, she was angered but glad at the same time.
"Shezan, you idiot! Why the hell are you here?" said Aminah angrily and was crying.
"Do you know each other?" asked Jehangir.
"Yes, she's my ex-girlfriend. I broke up with her when her twin, Amelia (wink at Jehangir) disturbed me more than her that I bound to breakup with her. To further mention, dad, she was from my university" said Shezan.
"You don't know what the hell have you done, son! You are one of the reasons that she attempted suicide!" said the sassy Jehangir.
"I don't know that she was your patient!" said Shezan.
"What do you know about? Young Archeologist! You know nothing just, only wine and artefacts!" shouted Jehangir.
"But dad" said Shezan.
"SHUT UP YOU FOOL! HAVE I RAISED YOU TO DUMP A GIRL LIKE THAT? GOD! WHO MADE YOU AN ARCHEOLOGIST! A PERSON WHO NEVER UNDERSTANDS THE FIRST SPELLING OF PATIENCE IS 'P' " screamed Jehangir.
"But Dad!" said Shezan.
"OH FOOL! YOU NEVER TOLD ME THAT YOUR GIRLFRIEND IS THE PERSON YOU HAVE MENTIONED IN COLLEGE! YOU DUFFER OF A DOG OF A MAN!" shouted Dr. Jehangir.
"But Dad" said Shezan.
"OH GOD! WHAT? I TOLD YOU TO TREAT YOUR GIRLFRIEND WITH PATIENCE! AND YOU BROKE OFF! YOU ARE SO OF AN IMMATURE FOOL!" shouted Jehangir.
"BHAI (Brother) could you forgive me? I am sorry" said Shezan in a high pitched cartoony voice.
"YOU...SHALL...NOT...PASS!" shouted Jehangir in a high pitched voice.
After a long time, Aminah laughed beautifully and genuinely. She smiled and hugged Shezan. Shezan was happy but confused at the same time.
"Go, hug her back, you nuts" said Jehangir.
The sweet hug gave the moment of the lovers to reunite. Aminah felt that the reason of hope had been returned. And to that option, Dr. Jehangir realized that he had to search her past memories to get the instrument to treat her. After the hug, Dr. Jehangir sobbed.
"Do you have a tissue?" asked Jehangir.
Aminah gave her handkerchief.
"My son's all grown-up. Well, Aminah- got your love back?" said Jehangir.
"Yes, I am glad. Anyway, thank you for saving me" asked Aminah.
"It was Mr. Jabbar who followed you through the rooftops and called me. Anyway, I will be visiting your first home. Your hometown, Gazipur" said Jehangir.
"Why?" asked Aminah and Shezan.
"Just an old family debts to handle and we all have a past, aren't we?" said Jehangir.
"By the time, I broke up with you, I had no knowledge about mental illness and patience when we were young, but now, I will support both Amelia and you. Now, I have a feeling that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. It sound clichéd but see it as a fact" said Shezan.
"Okay, dear. Anyway, uncle, I would like you to talk to one of my friends, Kantu. Oh, I miss her, she was way beautiful than me" said Aminah.
"I will" said Jehangir.
That was, indeed, the happiest moment of Aminah's life. To be honest, time kills the bad moments of life. Even the world is no one, you could make yourself a place. Never expect anything but believe.
The next day, Jehangir went to the village of Gazipur. The village had full of grasses and rice fields. The trees were mesmerizing and in between, there were huts made of bamboos and clays. The fishermen were sitting on the river, waiting for the fish to get into the net. The farmers were measuring the weight of one sack of rice. The van like rickshaws were dancing on the broken road.
Dr. Jehangir took a long breathe and sighed. He was mesmerized by the scenario of the village and as for the mention, the weather was cold that made him enjoy more. In reality, he was in the van-like rickshaw.
"Isn't it beautiful? Sir?" said the van puller.
"Yes, exciting as ever! There were memories! A lot of nostalgia" said Jehangir.
He might be excited but was quite sincere about his work.
