I was snuggled up in my grey dressing gown on the sofa. Noah was at school and I was left alone with my thoughts and the occasional buzzing of my phone.
Last night I did it again. Colby didn't need to know though, he would think I did it because of him. Which I mean I partly did but it was mainly just to ease the mental pain with physical pain.
I stood up to go over to the kitchen, I pushed my start button on my jug and went to the fridge to get milk. I needed coffee. I wasn't usually a coffee drinker but it was all I craved right now. So you could imagine my disappointment when I realised there was no milk, or coffee or anything in the house really. I needed to get groceries.
I sighed and headed upstairs I grabbed a long sleeved yellow Fila top and some black jeans. I grabbed shoes and draggedv a brush through my hair. I grabbed my keys and wallet and headed to my car.
I pulled up to the grocery store and grabbed a shopping cart. I knew I looked like ass but I was sure I wasn't going to run into anybody important. My eyes were bloodshot from the lack of sleep and I had big dark bags under my eyes. I was too tired to care about anything.
I pushed the carts through the aisles chucking in whatever I thought we needed occasionally letting out a yawn or keeping my eyes closed for longer than a blink. I finally got to the soy milk section, I was so tired I couldn't decide if I wanted almond milk or soy milk.
"Oh. My. God." Was all I heard to the left of me. I looked lazily over at a girl that looked like a brunette barbie doll. She was staring at me. "Are you Brie?"
"Huh?" Was all I could say.
"We went to high school together! Ugh I was such a geek then but now I'm a model. Gosh you were so put together in high school! Obviously a lots changed." She said very fast while looking me up and down in what I assume was disgust.
I was too tired to even be offended though.
"Well I'm kinda going through a rough patch at the moment." I said it felt like I hadn't blinked through this whole conversation.
"Oh with Colby? Gee! I can't believe you bagged a famous person before me!" My jaw dropped to the floor I didn't even remember this girl.
"I mean I guess." I said yawning slightly.
"Yes well I'm such a fan girl of his so I'm like on his side with the situation and I'm sure he didn't care about you very much based on what he did."
I just looked at her and blinked. Just as I was about to speak my phone rang, I pulled it out to see it was Colby.
"Oh speak of the devil!" I exclaimed and showed her my phone. Colby's name was still Colbs ❤️ in my phone and the picture that I had set was a picture of him kissing my cheek. I obviously hadn't gotten around to changing it.
"W-well aren't you going to answer it?" Was all she could say, it obviously took her by surprise. I clicked answer.
"Hey Colbs!" I exclaimed knowing he'd be surprised but was only doing it to get back at the barbie doll that was still standing watching.
"Hey Brie....are you ready to talk?" He replied obviously confused that I even answered I didn't really care what he was saying though.
"Yeah I'll definitely come to your party on Saturday! I can't wait!" I said looking the barbie doll dead in the eye. Her mouth was hanging open.
"Oh okay I'll guess I'll see you then." He said a little excited from what I could tell.
"Sure will" I replied. Before hanging up and looking at the brunette girl for the last time.
"Yeah I really do guess he doesn't care about me." I fake pouted before walking away leaving my old high school 'friend' in shock.
I hugged while pushing my shopping cart out of the aisle, how do I run into people like that?
I skimmed over the groceries deciding I had everything I needed and checked out, heading to my car and unloading everything.
As I was putting the cereal in a cupboard my phone rang. I was pretty sure it wasn't Colby because of how I acted on the phone today, so I answered.
"Hello?" I said in a cherry voice through the phone.
"Hi Brie, it's Mary." She said sternly. Mary was essentially my manager at this point. She'd call me when she had a job and I'd paint it. It was simple really.
Over time I had gotten to know Mary, she was a very independent person and was always blunt and straight to the point. I'm pretty sure most people knew she wasn't to be fucked with.
"Oh hey-"
"Now listen I have a client who loves yellows and pinks." Mary said cutting me off but I wasn't too worried she did it often. "So I need you to paint something bright, colourful and bubbly."
"Great." I sighed knowing it was the opposite of the way I felt.
"What? You can't do it? I can find someone else." She said as a warning.
"No no, I can do it I'll start right away. When do you need it done by?"
"Two weeks from today."
I got off of the call with Mary after figuring out all the sizing details and the colour palette, and figured I should get my canvas straight away. Two weeks was a very short period of time to be able to paint a large piece for a home.
I would go out and get all my supplies after my coffee I had been craving all day of course.
So once again I flicked the jug on and got out a big coffee cup. I put a teaspoon of coffee and a teaspoon of sugar into my mug. Put the boiling water in the cup only to realise...
I forgot the milk.
Okay so this is a bit of a boring chapter but shits about to get realllllll in the nest two. Then of course I will be finishing this book and starting the sequel.
Thank you so much for the support it really helps me to be more motivated to continue writing ❤️
