(Angst/Fluff) When Mark doesn't show up at the last Christmas show, Scott knows something is wrong
****
"Mark isn't here yet, I'm worried-" Scott frowns as he looks around.
"Has he called you?" Mitch asks, watching as his best friend paces back and forth.
"Not at all, and I know that he would have called me or something if he was planning on being late. It's our last show of the entire year, and I know he wanted to be here. We were just talking about it last night. Fuck, Mitch. What if something happened to him that caused him to be late?"
"Babe, calm down. I'm sure he's fine," Mitch tries to assure him. "Maybe he got caught in traffic?"
"Maybe. I'm just worried," Scott mumbles. He pulls out his phone and sighs when he sees that he has no text messages or calls from Mark. It just seems so unlike him to be late and not notify Scott about it.
Eventually, the show starts and Mark still hasn't showed up.
It isn't until they're about halfway through the show when Scott finally gets a call. Esther answers it while Scott's on stage, just in case it's a call from Mark so she can tell Scott that he's okay.
"Hello?" Esther asks when she answers the phone.
"Hi. Is Scott Hoying around? This is the hospital calling regarding someone called Mark Manio,"
Esther freezes, before taking a deep breath, praying it's not bad news. "Scott is currently unavailable at this time. I'm his tour manager. Is... everything alright? Mark is his boyfriend," she explains nervously.
"It seems that Mark has been in a car accident. He's currently in critical condition right now, and he has Scott Hoying listed as his emergency contact in his phone," the woman says.
"Thank you for calling," Esther says. "Do you know if he will make it?"
"Yes, he should. They're about to take him into surgery,"
"Thank you. I'll let Scott know as soon as possible. We'll be there as soon as we can. Thank you again," Esther says before hanging up the phone. "Dammit." She curses before running a hand through her hair. She walks back to the side of the stage and frowns when she sees Scott. He's so happy being on stage, and she doesn't want to ruin his good mood with this terrible news about Mark. But, Scott needs to know.
"Is everything alright?"
Esther looks over and sees Kate, looking worried.
"Mark's been in a car accident," Esther tells her. "I've got to tell Scott, but they're not finished..."
Kate frowns after hearing the news. "Well, I know if that were me out there, I'd want to know immediately if my loved one has been hurt. You have to tell him Esther. He deserves to know," she says.
As soon as Kevin starts his solo and the others come backstage, Esther grabs Scott aside.
"What's going on?" Scott asks, instantly noticing Esther's worried and panic state.
"I know why Mark isn't here," Esther says, looking up at Scott. "Scott, there's been an accident."
Scott stares at her with wide eyes. "Esther, please tell me he's okay," he begs.
"He's in critical condition, and he's about to go under surgery. He's at the hospital right now. It's up to you whether or not you want to finish the show. I just couldn't keep this from you," Esther tells him.
Scott takes a deep breath, running a hand through his hair. "He's going to make it?" He looks at Esther.
"Scott, you don't have to finish the show," Esther says. "We can leave right now if you want."
