I looked up at the whiteboard, Mr Heyrid was pointing and talking fast at the words and drawings strewn across the board. His bald head reflected the glow of the lights from above him, and his glasses were covered in fingerprints. Wearing his usual white and blue shirt and his black long pants, he continued to talk and write on the board.

He continued to talk about the properties and every day use of friction, a boring subject if you ask me. Going on about
"Things would be very different without friction, imagine not walking, running or even jumping. It would all be impossible without friction" he kept babbling on.

Situations like this it's just best to ignore it, unless he catches you trying to, then your in trouble. But I'm glad one of my best skills is lying and getting out of sticky situations, it comes in handy.

Our classroom isn't very big, and frankly it's just plain boring. There's no colour apart from our boring brown school uniforms and black bags. The walls, ceiling, desks, they're all white and grey, even someone like me appreciates a little life in a room. Our teacher Mr Heyrid isn't one for beauty, he's more of a plain, unadventurous kinda guy. Makes for a pretty dull conversation at parent teacher interviews, and trust me when i say, it makes me want to get good grades for once, so that I don't have to deal with it again. I swear it could be counted as a form of torture.

In all, I'd say there's about 20 kids including me in this class, two of them are my friends, Kate and Ester, the others I would just classify them all as hopeless cases. This may be middle school, but it's all for none, it's best not to trust anyone, including friends. For all you know they could be trying to kill you or they could just be using you. I mean, it's good to have them around for emergencies, but come on, how well do you really know them in the end?

I admit, I do have trust issues, but, that's just the truth that I believe.
"So... in conclusion. There's no way we could live without friction" concluded Mr Heyrid with a smile across his face. I bet he was just happy to have finished talking about friction.
"Mr Heyrid, how many times do you have to repeat this teaching for you to finally believe that we already know it?" I stood up, fed up of him always repeating lessons. My face was expressionless, my heart was pounding, but it didn't bother me, honestly it felt good to stand up to him.

"Excuse me?..... Watch what you say to me Emily.... repetition is a scientifically proven way to learn and memorise information. I am only doing this for your benefit." He said angrily, his smile had faded into a serious expression. It was hard to believe that he was doing this for everyone's benefit, if it was for my benefit it was to kill me of boredom. Anyway it wasn't my fault that his teaching is boring, besides this is the eighth time he's repeated it, I'm surprised I lasted this long.

"But sir, i think everyone got the concept of friction after the first lesson" I said cheekily.
"I am glad your leaving" he replied with a smirk.
"Wait, what do you mean leaving?" I asked, almost instantly after I finished speaking the lunch bell rang throughout the entire classroom echoing through my head. Still standing i uncrossed my arms, flung my boring black bag across my shoulder and followed the others out the door.

"Hey Emily!" Called Kate, she was obviously exited about todays menu. Today was pie day, the cafeteria always ordered pies on Fridays and Kate's favourite food is of course pie.
"Come on Emily, if we don't hurry they'll be no more pies left" worried Kate. She looked at me seriously, her blond curly hair reached her shoulders and her blue eyes were as bright as the sky. Her white skin is flawless, there's not even a freckle on her face.

"I'm coming" I yell back, rushing past the crowds of people towards her. "Where's Ester?" I ask
"Not sure..... I haven't seen her since your speech in class." Replied Kate, holding my hand and dragging us both through the crowd. The main thing that I hate about school is the people, there's just so many, and they don't consider you at all, not all of them though, at least not Kate and Ester.

Kate and I both lined up at the cafeteria for recess, mainly for pie. We were pretty much at the front of the long line, thanks to Kate dragging us through the herds of people.
"I'd like 4 extra meaty pies please" Asked Kate when her turn to buy came.
"Okay.... that's $20" Replied the lady. Kate, pulled out a $50 dollar note from her Purse and handed it to the lady. Kate was given her pies, change and went to find a table. It was my turn to order, but...., something felt wrong, nothing on the menu seemed appetising at all, in fact it made me want to gag.
"can i just get a chocolate bar please" I said handing her the money going to find Kate.

"Is that all you got?" Asked Kate looking like a disappointed puppy.
"I don't really feel like eating" I replied putting my chocolate bar down on the table and taking a seat on the opposite side of her. She was wolfing down the pies she just bought, she already had finished one and was halfway through the second.

"So this is where you two ran off to" said Ester, standing at the end of the table furthest away from us, she had her hands on her hips and looked upset.
"Yeah, where have you been" I asked,
"Looking for you two" she replied with attitude. Ester has orange hair and green eyes, her skin is pale and covered in freckles. She sat down next to me, appearing less angry.

All of a sudden my stomach and teeth erupted in pain.
"Are you okay?" Ester said concerned
"I don't know" I said worriedly, my left hand on my stomach and my right hand covering my mouth, even I have to admit that a pain like this isn't something to brush off as nothing.
"Where does it hurt?" Asked Kate, still stuffing her face.
"My stomach and my teeth" I replied still in agony

"Out of ten, how painful is it?" Asked Ester
"DEFINITELY A TEN" I yell loud enough that the entire room herd me. I dropped my head onto the table, it made a loud banging noise. The room fell silent and I could tell everyone was starring at me, my hands were still on my stomach and mouth. I closed my eyes and tried to deal with the pain, but I was in too much pain to deal with it. I started to feel dizzy and lightheaded, and then, it was pitch black and completely silent.
