Once was a fearsome creature, his eyes glowing yellow

Don't be scared, he was a courageous fellow

The wolf had to howl about the things that he'd done

But the thing he'd did has his heart feeling mellow

Wolf's things he did were not in good fun

He was simply protecting the lives of one's that he loved

Of course he hated living like he was on the run

In the end, he hoped he'd go home to open-armed hugs

The wolf, lost in thought, lifted his head

And slashed very quickly, his fangs dripping red

He lifted his teeth again, finishing the thought

What's it matter in the end, if all we are is dead?

Day after day, this wolf knew what war brought

In the end, if this is ever over, can love still be sought?

Wolf races into battle, just as blood tinges the air

Through war, he whispers

"I'll see you one day, if I live, and you're still there..."

(Author's Note: This poem was about war, if you couldn't tell. Symbolically a man in war turns into a 'wolf' while on the battle field but it does not change his line of thought, nor the internal tug that his family has on him.)
