One day breaks are certified blessings in the Major Baseball League, during the season that is. We're scheduled to hit the field six days out of the week for six months straight, not including the World Series. It's tough on the mind and body but I've fallen in love with the sport and accept everything it comes with. But I'll be a lie if I say I don't look forward to the days where I can chill at the house without thinking of playing.

Today is one of those days, and according to my coaches, I should be taking the time to sleep. Too bad I've been dealing with terrible insomnia so I've been taking 'cat' naps all night. Now it's going on 8am and I've paused my movie to fix myself a turkey and white cheddar sandwich.

As I lay barbecue chips atop the white cheddar cheese, I hear bare feet smack against the stairs. I glance up to my girlfriend Brielle heading my way. "I don't know why I expected to wake up to you in bed."

She yawns before reaching up to cup my face and kiss my cheek. I lean into it, "I mean you have been sleep since you got home."

"I knew the ER was stressful but got damn!" She huffs while pulling the fridge door open. "This one woman came in with her husband— that she stabbed with a steak knife by the way — and was all cool about it. Like...excuse me?"

"That sounds like something you'd do." I comment, peering over my shoulder to see she only wore a cropped tank top and panties; her typical sleep attire.

Naturally, my hand swung backward to smack her on the ass. She cut her head in my direction, swinging her wavy, sandy brown hair in the process, and gave me a toothless smile. "No, it does not. Anyway, how long did you sleep?"

"Altogether? Three hours, maybe?" I pressed my sandwich flat then picked it up for my first bite.

"Three? Babe...you can't be doing that." She pushes the fridge door shut, walks up behind me, and wraps her arms around my waist. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing. I just can't sleep." I shrug. "You have a clear schedule for today, right?"

"Nope. The girls and I wanna go shopping then do a little movie hopping. We realized we haven't done that since like high school, so it should be fun. You have any plans?"
