My eyes trail over her small form, taking in every beautiful detail of her face. Her breathing deepens and slows letting me in on the fact that she's asleep. I screwed up. I definitely screwed up. In my defense, I just want her to be safe. I want to protect her. Every fiber of my being wants nothing more than to make sure that she's safe. I inch closer to her, doing my best not to move the bed and wake her up. My eyes remain glued to her face as I slide closer until I am directly in front of her, mere inches from her tiny form.
I was so terrified when she left. It didn't help when I felt her leave our territory and no one could find her. I searched everywhere within our borders, praying she would come back. Or better, hadn't left at all. I had no luck. I couldn't find here anywhere. My beta had to drag me back to the house, telling me I just needed to wait for her to come back. How could I just sit and wait while she was out there mad at me? He didn't really give me much of a say in the matter though. I hate what she does. I can't handle her risking her life every time she goes out there. I spend the entire time freaking out, assuming the worst and that she won't come back to me. Every time will be the last time I see her, I just know it.
A warm body pressing flush against mine snaps me out of my thoughts. My body relaxing instantly as she presses her small form against my side. My arm slides around her waist, tightening my hold so she can't decide to move away from me now. Her face buries into the side of my chest as she cuddles further into me. I press a soft kiss to her temple before resting my chin on top of her head and closing my eyes. She purrs softly as she relaxes further against my hold. It's good to know that her feline knows who her mate is and looks to me for comfort. At least she isn't mad at me.
"I love you Emmet," I whisper before kissing her temple once more.
"I love you too Hayden," she mumbles in her sleep. I love her so, so much.

Warmth, that's the first thing I register as I start to wake up. Sparks are the next thing. Hayden. My eyes flutter open, immediately taking in the site of Hayden's bare chest. His face is nuzzled into my neck as he keeps me pressed tightly to his body. His breathing remains deep and slow. My eyes start to slip closed once more until soft lips brush lightly against my mark. A jolt of electricity instantly shoots from the mark eliciting a soft moan from my lips. His arms tighten slightly, but his breathing remains deep and steady. He must still be asleep. His lips softly brush against my mark again earning another soft moan. I'm really starting to question if he's still asleep.
"Good morning beautiful." His breath fans lightly against my neck sending a shiver of pleasure up my spine. I nuzzle my head under his chin before resting it on his chest. "You had me so scared last night. Scared you were hurt, scared you were taken. Scared you weren't going to come back to me. Please, please don't do that again," he murmurs into my hair as his grip tightens on my body. I squeeze my eyes shut, forcing the tear back,
"I'm sorry. I was just mad and hurt. I just wanted to get away from a little bit." He nods slowly, kissing the top of my head gently.
"I know. I just worry about you," he mumbles. I nod and press myself tighter to his side, enjoying the comfort he brought me.
"I love you," I mumble hiding my face in his chest. He holds me tighter.
"I love you too Emmet. So so much," he whispers in my ear sending shivers down my spine. I lean up to press my lips against his, only to pull back at the loud sound that echoes through the house. We both jerk up at the sound of the gunshot, Hayden gripping onto my body protectively. Smoke slowly starts to seep under the bedroom door. Hayden growls lowly, a warning growl, before he opens the door. His steps are slow and deliberate as he moves out of the room, his arm covering his mouth to keep from inhaling the smoke. I follow after him, trying to see him through the thick layer of smoke. Even with my heightened senses, I can't see anything in front of me. I quickly lose Hayden in the smoke, even his scent being covered by the smell from the smoke bombs.
Two large arms suddenly wrap around from my back before a cloth covers my mouth. These arms do not belong to my mate. Not at all. A cloth covers the lower half of my face as my mind gets dizzy and darkness starts to overcome me.
"Emmet? Emmet? Where are you," Hayden yells into the smoke. His voice just barely penetrating my ears before I succumb to the darkness.
