"Hayden," a weak groan slips past my lips as my face contorts in pain.
"Does it hurt little Emmet? Good. Now shut it before I make sure you can never make another sound again," Ayden growls. His hand meets the side of my cheek, stinging pain radiating from the slap. A soft groan slips past my lips as I bite my tongue. I need to find a way out of this before it's too late.
"What do you want," I ask quietly.
"I want you to die. Well, more importantly I want Hayden to feel the pain of losing a mate. The same pain that I feel every single day without her. He caused this, and he needs to feel the same pain," he growls out angrily. Another sadistic smile graces his lips before he reaches behind him to pull out a small leather bag. Great, this again.
********************Hayden's POV****************************
"Why would your brother take your mate," Lizzie asks me. I sigh and sit down on a chair, my hand roughly forcing its way into my hair.
"His mate died when he was very young, just a child. So he never got a chance to meet her. He ended up falling for a great girl later on though. They were set to get married when we were attacked by rogues. It was just a few days before the wedding so everyone was getting prepared for it. The attack caught us off guard, when we were weak. The warriors weren't able to get there in time before Ariana was killed. He has blamed me for her death since. He says he wants me to feel the pain of losing your other half. A couple years later, our parents died and that's when he took Sophia. After you brought her back, I didn't hear from him again. Until now," I finish in a whisper.
"Well that's something to go off of. Any who Lizzie, let's go my dear. Track away," Red says clapping his hands together. A growl forces its way past my lips at how carefree he is acting, my wolf instantly bristling. Lizzie nods slightly before whispering a soft chant under her breath and walking out of the house. I step beside her, following closely in anticipation of getting my mate back. My wolf is pacing back and forth in my mind, anxious to have our mate back in our arms safe and sound.
************************Emmet's POV************************
I growl out in pain as the sharp knife lands in my side. Ayden grabs another knife, taunting me with it, before releasing it into my shoulder. Then another into my thigh. Each time a knife pierces my skin, pain fills my body causing me to bite my lip to keep from crying out. I don't want to give him that satisfaction.
"Ayden, please. Why are you doing this," I grunt out through the pain. Goddess I'm in so much pain.
"You deserve everything you get. My brother deserves everything. It's his fault, all of this is his fault. He killed her, killed my Ariana. It's his fault we never married, we never had a family. Everything is his fault. He took away my happiness. So now I will take away his." Angry tears stream down his face as he angrily yells at me."What about your mate? She's out there somewhere waiting for you. She can be your happiness. Do you want to have this on your hands for the rest of your life? Do you want your mate to know that you were a monster who killed his own brother's mate," I gasp out, pain filling every inch of my body.
"I don't have a mate. She died a long time ago. Ariana was my choice, my love. And now she's gone as well," he growls out, sorrow and anger mixing in his tone.
"You could have a second chance. The moon goddess does that when they die so young. She could be out there, another mate for you. You just have to look." He slowly steps towards me before slowly pulling every knife from my body. The pain increasing with every pull. Blood rushes out of the now open wounds, my mind getting darker the more blood pours out. I can feel myself fading, slipping in an out of consciousness as the pain fades as well. A chill slowly washes over my body, coldness sinking down into my bones.
A muffled crash rumbles through the building. Well, it sounds muffled. Sounds that vaguely resemble fighting reach my ears as I struggle to maintain my grasp on consciousness. A voice that sounds remarkably close to Hayden's voice floats through the room before I finally lose the battle to the darkness.
"I love you Hayden," I whisper softly into the room as I expend the rest of my energy trying to get the message through the mind link to my mate. Then I succumb to the darkness completely, welcoming the relief from pain with open arms.
