Chapter 14: just a mask

To mason a week was not long enough to mental prepare for what was going to happen, he had spend all of the night before trying to convince Ridley to go back to work in a couple of weeks time when she was more mobile. No matter what he did, she wouldn't back down from her decision to go back so soon after her accident and tried pretend that the worse was behind. Although Mason had a feeling that the worse was just beginning, he could see that Ridley was in pain with every sight movement she took. Also the fact that she hadn't been in a car since she came home from the hospital and he could tell she was physically scared by the sheer thought of going into a car.

" you know no one would think badly of you if you wanted to take more time off right Matt?" Mason told Ridley while looking for some support from Matt who was in the kitchen making coffee

" no of course not but I also know that you will go crazy if you stay for here much longer so I stay go but take it easy" Matt said knowing that Ridley wouldn't let something as small as not being able to walk stop her from doing what she loved

" see Matt thinks I can do it, so why don't you?" She said as she hopped around the room trying to get dressed without the use of her crutches

" I do think you can it, you know I do but I worry about you sometimes so just promise me that you won't push yourself too much" he said making her sit down on the bed while he began to pack her bag for her

" fine I will but mason hunnie you got to chill out, I'll be fine......what time is the train at again?" she said while putting her coat, hat, scarf and gloves

" its in twenty minutes so we should start walking towards the train station, that way you can take you time" Mason said while he began to put on his winter clothing

" fine lets go then, we don't want to be late on my first day back to work" she said beginning to walk only to be stopped by Mason

" rid aren't you forgetting something?" He said slightly annoyed while holding up her crutches that she left at the bathroom door, he could tell that she was going to try and push him to the limit with every little thing related to her accident

" oh...right I guess I can't really get away with the same things when I'm dating an orthopedic surgeon than i could if I was dating a normal guy" she said collecting her crutches as she began to head out of the door while Mason held back so that he could talk to Matt privately

" what's going on Mason?" Matt asked clearly noticing that he had something on his mind that he couldn't say in front of Ridley

" you can't seriously think she can do this do you? I mean she is amazing and everything but... Come on" Mason said while his brain was running a head of itself, knowing all of the things that could go wrong like her ripping her stitches

" no I don't but I do believe she thinks she can do it and as long as she does then there's nothing we can do to stop her" he said as he gathered his stuff including the rental car keys since their car was still being fixed

" really? Cause I'm pretty sure that we could take her considering that she is tiny and a girl plus she can't really run away right now" Mason said while Matt locked the apartment door as they began to head downstairs

" yes but she is a grey which basically makes her like the strongest and the most insane person alive, if this is what she wants then she will do it no matter. Greys are stubborn as hell" he said just as they reached the door where they meet a very impatient Ridley

" yeah you can say that again.... Sorry babe I just wanted to talk to Matt about some case thing for work and I guess we got a little caught up" he said as she began to walk away although he was able to catch up fairly quickly considering her speed
