Chapter 19: more than a bug
When Ridley woke up that morning something felt off as she ran to the bathroom to empty the contents of her stomach, as soon as she felt like it safe to stand up she stood by the sink and began to brush her teeth. She took her time getting dressed, she decided to wear a pair of jeans, a red moon top, a grey hoodie and a brown boots. She couldn't be bothered to anything special with her hair or make up so left them in their natural glory. She quickly grabbed her plaid coat, scarf and bag before heading into the living room where she lay on the couch waiting for Matt who eventually came out and took one look at her and insisted that she stay home despite already knowing she would say that she was fine. When they got to the hospital she quickly got changed into a her scrubs and work shoes then grabbed her grey cardigan before walking to the nurses station to get her new patient files.
" you realise you look like hell on earth right? I don't see why you don't just tell Owen that you're sick and go home" Matt told her as he checked his patients post ops from the day before
" because I'm not sick, Im just nauseous and occasionally puke.....it's nothing I'm fine" she told him taking small sips from her water bottle
" you know I think if you're arm was hanging off by a thread you would still say you're fine, you say it so much that no one believes it anymore rid" he told her just wanting what was best for her
" ok I'll make you a deal if I get any worse then I'll go and talk to Owen but I'm good so go, you have work to do" she said as he kissed on the head and began to walk to the other side of the room where Jackson was in deep conversation with a patient's wife
Ridley began to gather up her files and walk to the paediatric ward when she suddenly felt dizzy, before she could realise it she started to lose her balance. Just then she felt a set of strong arms catch her before she could hit the floor, she looked up to see a concerned Mason who gentle placed her in a nearby chair. He set the files on the chair next to her, he kneeling in front of her and gently swept the hair that was in her eyes and tucked in behind her ears.
" you ok?" He asked automatically feeling stupid as a doctor he knew that people who were ok didn't just almost pass out
" yeah I'm fine I must have just lost my balance but I'm ok really, so you don't have to look at me like I'm a fragile China doll that's about to break any second" she said smiling weakly at him, trying to reassure him
" you're burning up Rid and you don't look fine, you're pale and sweaty like in a fever way.Would you please at least let someone check you out, just in case it's something?" He said practically begging her to listen to him, he hated to see her like this
" ok if it'll make you fell better then I'll go and see my mo-" she began to say before she felt like she was going to be sick and started to run towards the nearest bathroom, Mason looked torn about what to do
" hey Mason it's ok, I got it" Matt said as he half walked and half ran past him, he had watching them talking in case something like this might happen. He knew there was certain things that best friends could do that a boyfriend couldn't do such as walk into the women's bathroom
When Matt opened the door to the women's bathroom he could hear Ridley being sick, he quickly checked that no one else was in the bathroom before knocking in the door of the cubicle that he guessed she was in. Once she was finished she unlocked the door of whoever had followed her in into the bathroom and grabbed some toilet paper to wipe her mouth then slumped against the cubicle wall. Matt took one look at her and knew something was wrong with her, he bent down to sit down facing her with his back to the opposite cubicle wall from hers.
