Chapter 18: pile on the pressure
Katie, Chris, Matt and Ridley decided that the night before the intern exams that they would have one last power study at their place so that they could go over all the material, they had asked Sam if he wanted to despite none of them liking him but he declined since he was studying with the other ruthless interns. This why they were currently spread out in Ridley and Matt's living room half asleep with books, Callie's infamous flash cards and notes laying everywhere. Ridley was glad that she had dressed for comfort than for fashion, she was wearing a grey crop tank, floral joggers, a beige knitted sweater and a pair of socks. Plus she had long giving up with her curly hair and simple placed it into a messy bun with a headband with a small simple bow. She also took out of her contacts and decided to her glasses which were a rarity for her. Ridley decided to take a break for their current game of question round and got up to make a fresh pot of coffee for everyone
" I say we stop the studying for like fifteen minutes, otherwise my brain will explode. I need to be thinking about something other the exam " Ridley said to them as she poured the freshly made coffee into their cups
" yay to that idea... So what's going on with you and Mason?.... What? You wanted to stop and talk about something that wasn't medical or exam related" Katie said trying to innocent as she chuckled into her cup as she took a long sip of her coffee
"Whats going on with you and Matt?" Ridley said trying to turn the table while also pretending that she didn't see the glare that Matt was currently sending her way
" oh no I asked first, what happened after the gala?" Katie asked still hating the fact that Ridley hadn't really told her or Chris what was going on between her and Mason since their kiss two weeks ago at the gala, she knew that Matt already knew but refused to tell her
" it complicated... I think I mean after we you-know-what, he asked what it all meant so we talked about everything and he handed me the love construct which he had already signed" she said remembering every detail of that night like the back of her hand
Flashback
Eventually Ridley and Mason decided to lie in bed together which meant that Mason had his wrapped around Ridley, afraid that if he let her that she might begin to run and this time not stop to look back. Everything went silent in the room as they thought peace and happy thoughts about the unexpected turn of events which led them here, although Mason had this nagging feeling inside of him that made him want to jump and ask her the one thing on his mind. Ridley turned around to face him as he propped himself up on his elbow and place her hand near his left cheek as she gently stroked it with her thunb, Mason turned his face slightly so that he was able to kiss her palm. He knew that this was chance, he wasn't going to find a better time than now.
" you know that sooner or later that we're going to need to talk about what this meant and what we're going to do next" he said softly he knew that he had to be the one to say otherwise she wasn't going to but he also didn't want to kick start her flight instincts
" why do we need to talk? Why do we need to ruin this by analysing it?" She said trying to avoid the relationship conversation that she knew was coming, whether she like it or not
" you kissed me which means that you started this thing tonight so we need to talk about it, are we back together or was it just because I was with Daisy?" He said thinking it might have the fact that she couldn't have that made her want him even more
" kinda, seeing you with Daisy made me realise that I don't want you to date other people and something that my uncle Jackson said to me before the gala kept bothering me" she said sitting up as she began to wrap the sheet around her to cover her up slightly
