Chapter 16: road block
Things in the hospital had somewhat returned normal as Ridley was now able to walk on her own without the leg brace or any kind of support, now she waiting to hear when she could beginning working in other surgical fiends again. The other attending like Derek, Callie and Jackson had started talking Mason more, Jackson and him had actually became really good friends which meant that they spend most of their time at the hospital together. Mason and Ridley had started to talk more but every time mason tried make or things began to get a little heated Ridley would back down and eventually leave. She could see that being broken up was seriously benefiting mason, to her that made it all the hurting they were going through worth it. That day the staff were gathered together at the bottom of the stairs waiting for Owen to tell them whatever it is they needed to know.
" hello everyone, i know we're all very busy so I'll make this quick. I wanted to inform everyone that the hospital will be holding a gala. Now this gala would allow us the chance to raise the hospitals profile and might provide us with the opportunity to gain more investors. This gala will take place on a month on Saturday. Thanks guys... Oh can all the interns come to the large conference room" Owen said to everyone before turning to leave
" I hate it when we dress up all pretty and stuff, I'm a doctor not a showgirl" Ridley said to Matt, Katie and Chris as they headed towards the large conference room with coffee in hand as always
" you would be awful as a showgirl, they're meant to be positive and perky not snippy and grungy" Matt said knowing every word was true, he was the only person who could say it to her
" what's so bad about getting dressed up, I mean for one night we get to something other than doctors in scrubs. We get wear pretty dress and actually make up"
Kate said actually getting excited over the thought of it, showing yet again how much her and Ridley were different
" I can't help it if that's how I'm genetically programmed, I mean you have met my parents right? Either of them are exactly happy go lucky" she said taking a sip of coffee, one among the many during her 24 hour shift that only had three more hours to go
" I like your dad, he's funny and he's so intelligent like the other day he let me help in a spinal surgery that should have been impossible but somehow he did it" Chris gushed as the others stopped and looked at him as they headed into the conference room
" got a little man crush on Derek there, Chris?" Matt said before they all began to a laugh
" haha very funny, is anyone else wondering what's going on?" Chris asked trying to change the subject to something else
" it's probably about out intern exams that are coming up" Ridley said as they took their seat just as Owen and Richard took their places on the stage in front of them
" as you are aware you have your intern exams coming up in a month and half, if you pass then you will proceed to become a resident. However this year we are introducing something new, I'll let dr webber tell you about it" Owen said stepping aside to let Richard stand in the middle
" after a long discussion with the board and the attendings, we've decided to allow you to elect a speciality after you're finished your intern exam rather than in your last year of residency." Richard said beginning to shout over the ramble of voice that had began to discuss this new change
" does that mean that we can take our boards early?" Asked one of the intern who were siting near the front
" depending on whether or not your mentor and I think you're ready you could be sitting you're boards next year. Although most of you are looking at a two or three wait" he told them knowing someone would be relieved by this while others would begin to panic
