Four

Stella sadly gazed at the dead filly that had been shot. The filly's mother was now sadly standing over her, whinnying in despair. The more that Stella thought about what had happened, the angrier she got.

What kind of creature kills others without a reason? Stella was scared to even know the answer. She trotted over to her mother and leaned against her. Her mother's calmness comforted her. "What are these creatures, and what are they doing," Stella asked, even though she knew that she would not get an answer.

"I don't know, my little one. I don't know."

Stella gazed angrily at the creature as it kicked her mother. Sky ran at it, her teeth bared. It hit her with a long stick that had a flexible strip of hide on the end. The creature had placed a thing on her mother's back, and connected it around her.

The creature had drawn blood by now, and Sky was getting weaker by the minute. The creature kept on whipping her mother until Sky slumped to the ground.

"Mother!" It was too late. Her mother took one last breath, then was still. Stella ran to her mother. She whinnied her sadness to the world.

As she stood there, her sadness was replaced with fury and hatred.

Stella reared, and ran at the creature. As she passed, she clipped it and it fell over. Her vision went red. She ran at it, and bowled it over. She reared, once again, about to crush it, when she heard the voice of her mother in her mind.

Don't kill this creature. You must not be the monster that it is; that would make you just as evil.

Stella made a split-second decision, then at the last second twisted in the air. Instead, she ran back over to her mother's body, her head bowed in grief.
