Eleven
Stella observed as the humans opened the gate to Dillo's pasture. They ran around the pen, trying to catch him, but Dillo was faster. He ran in circles until Stella called to him, "Dillo, these humans are good. They are much different than the other ones. Let them catch you; they do not wish you any harm."
Dillo doubtfully obeyed Stella. The humans slipped a thing over his head that they hooked a long rope onto. They guided him into a trailer like the one from yesterday. Dillo cautiously stepped into it, as they took the rope off, and closed the back. The humans did the same with Stella, and Kyla. Stella didn't know what they wanted with Kyla, but she guessed that it was some other idea of those crazy humans. You could never guess what they were going to do to them next.
As the trailer started moving, Stella wondered where they were being taken. Surely not back to that horrid place that we first came to, she hoped. And if they do, I will never trust humans again.
She hoped that at least the humans would be as kind as the ones where she had met Kyka. But wherever they took them, she would always escape. Unless I don't make it... No. I must not think like that. If she did, then she would lose hope.
As the trailer started to slow down and came to a stop, Stella heard the sound of lots of people.
The trailer opened, and Stella curiously backed out, observing her surroundings. She flattened her ears. There were many humans all gathered together. There was one with a very loud, fast voice. The people seemed to be displaying horses, and also the calfs of what she had come to know as cows, at the ranch.
What are they doing? They seem to be...I don't really know. This was typical human behavior, she guessed. Dillo and Kyla had both been led over to Stella. The humans holding them started guiding them over to separate pens.
As they watched, Kyla explained to them what was happening.
"I was brought to one of these when I was young. It is called an auction. It is where they sell horses, and claim them. The one with the fast voice is the auctioneer. The ones with the sly grins are the ones that buy horses to kill them for meat."
