Fourteen

As Stella settled down for the night, she breathed in the scent of the fresh air, and the grass. She looked over the long extent of land in front of the mountains. That is how far that she had to go.

Over that stretch of fields full of horses, under that hollow arch of land, through those thick pine forests, to that empty expanse of land, with endless hills for grazing, and a crystal clear river to drink from. My home.

Stella realized that she could now clearly see the way home. All she had to do was follow the star that never moved, the North Star.

Stella woke to the sound of heavy hoofbeats. She looked up to see a tall Percheron horse trotting over to the fence. He was being ridden by the same woman that had brought them there from the auction. That had been over a half - moon ago. Stella now realized how long that she had been gone from home. Two moon - cycles. She couldn't wait to get home.

The woman that sat on the great white horse held an object in her hands that was black, with a round, shiny thing on the front of it.

The object flashed, and Stella jumped. The woman let out a high, amused sound. Stella rolled her eyes. Humans were so crazy.
