Part of the Forever and a Dae!AU

--

Arthit hasn’t showered in two days now. It’s not because he was too lazy to take a shower, it’s just he doesn’t have the time to do so.

Having a two month old baby is a lot of hard work, and it’s taking a toll on Arthit. Kongpob is on an important conference outside of state so he was left alone to take care of their baby.

Dae was a month and a half old when the adoption papers went through. It was tragic what happened to the baby’s parents, but they really couldn’t blame anyone for what had happened. What was important was that Dae has now a home, and Arthit and Kongpob would be his parents from now on.

It was a mixture of emotions when Dae finally went home to their house for the first time. The married couple made sure to baby proof the whole house, buying every necessity they deem was needed for the baby including some books about parenting.

They decided to adopt Dae during their wedding reception where one of Arthit’s relatives brought the news about their neighbors dying in the house fire – the only surviving member of the family was the baby.

Arthit knew that Kongpob wouldn’t be able to stomach what had happened. He remembered the look on his husband’s face that night, a look of sympathy and concern.

They had talked about adoption even before they got married. Arthit just hadn’t thought he’d be a father right after they got married.

With a whole heart, Arthit and Kongpob had decided to proceed with the adoption immediately. With Kongpob’s father’s connections, it wasn’t long before the papers went through.

    And now they’re here – he’s here.

Dae cries after the music from his tablet stops. Arthit takes a deep sigh and replays the video. He’s really getting tired of hearing Baby Shark for the nth time of the day – too preoccupied to really count. But it’s what calms his son, so Arthit doesn’t care if his ears happen to bleed out, or if Baby Shark is the last thing he hears before he gets completely deaf. As long as baby Dae is happy, Papa Arthit is happy as well.

Being a father . . . well, he really hasn’t put too much thought about it because he was too busy changing diapers, feeding the baby, or just making sure Dae doesn’t end up dying under his care. But being a father matures Arthit in ways he never imagines happening.

He likes to think that he’s a capable father, but the first time Dae’s left under Arthit’s care and his son cried, well . . . he cried, too.

Arthit’s too prideful to ask for his parent’s help – same goes with his in-laws. He wanted to prove to his and Kongpob’s parents that he’s capable of handling the situation. After all, he’s taking care of a baby; and what could a baby possibly do?

    Right?

“Mommy shark du-du-du,” he finds himself muttering. Baby Dae is on their bed with his tablet far from reach. It’s already lunch time and Arthit knows his son’s about to ask for food.

He looks down at his son and smiles tiredly. The last time Arthit looked at the mirror was when he was brushing his teeth, so he has an idea on what he looks like currently. He just hopes his smile doesn’t come off as somewhat creepy.

Dae’s little chubby hands reaches out to him, so Arthit wiggles his fingers in the air, just barely touching his son’s. He coos when Dae lets out a giggle – though he’s not sure whether it’s due to him or that stupid Baby Shark, now playing for another round.
