Meet the family AU.
(Mom) Darika - star
(Dad) Daw – bright and beautiful stars
--
Darika watches her son, Arthit, pace around the living room. She’s noticed how her son seems to be anxious about something ever since they had lunch. She gives her husband, Daw, a questioning look to where he just shrugs.
It’s good to have Arthit back for the semester break. The engineering program at the university is not something to take lightly since the school is known for their curriculum. Darika instantly noticed how her son seem to be getting thinner, and it’s a mother’s duty to feed their son until they blow up, so she did that the moment Arthit stepped into their house.
“Oon, dear, why don’t you sit down?” After their lunch, the family hangs out at the living room, and Daw is quite invested at the basketball game playing at the TV.
She nudges her husband. Daw looks at her then to their son. “Oon, listen to your mother,” he says before turning back on the TV.
Darika sighs. It’s quite hard getting her husband’s attention when he starts watching TV.
“Oon,” she calls, patting the seat beside her. Arthit looks at her, chewing his lips. “Come have a sit with your mae.”
Her son looks to be troubled, which is not good. She hopes it’s nothing serious.
Arthit takes a seat on the single chair to their left, propping up his elbows on his thighs. Her son takes a deep breath before calling their attention, “Mae, Por, I have something to tell you.”
Darika looks at her son encouragingly, ready to listen to whatever Arthit has to say. Beside her, Daw cheers when one of the players scores a point.
She rolls her eyes, leaning in over his husband’s ears to whisper, “I know where you hide your sweets.”
“What is it, son?” Daw says immediately.
She chuckles. Daw really loves his sweets, and it’s gotten to a point where his husband tries to hide his chocolates from him – which he’s not really good at.
They both turn to Arthit, waiting patiently. Their son busies himself from chewing the inside of his cheeks – something Arthit has taken from his father whenever he’s nervous.
“I – ” Arthit starts. He gulps and sighs, “I want . . . I’m – I want you to meet someone.”
Her face lights up. Being an only child, Darika had all the hopes and dreams for their son, but they had waited when Arthit was still in high school, hoping their son would introduce them to his girlfriend, but her Arthit seem to be disinterested in the matters of the heart and more focused on his studies.
Don’t get her wrong, studying is important, but it’s also important to find some inspiration from other people by falling in love. Darika remembers the time when she and Daw were still dating. They were high school sweethearts to begin with.
Before she can express her glee, Daw speaks up. “It’s not another dog is it?”
She playfully slaps her husband, chuckling.
“That was one time, Pa!” Arthit harrumphs, “I was 10 years old!”
“Your Por is kidding, Oon,” she puts a hand on Daw’s shoulders, warning him. “That’s great news, son. What’s her name?”
