You knocked softly on the door. It gave out a nice, clear sound. "Come in." the voice from inside said. You twisted the knob, pushing the door in. Seol smiled brightly as usual when she saw you. "Please, take a seat." She gestured to the chair in front of her work table.
"Thank you for meeting with me so last minute." you said, feeling embarrassed by your action. It was nearing the end of the semester and the paper on Demian was close to being due. Despite finishing the book ages ago, you constantly put off writing the report. And now it was almost too late. Last night, you stayed up the whole night writing the paper, with 3 cups of coffees and one grumpy Yuqi for playing loud music to keep you awake and her awake as well. In the end, you managed to finish the paper, with flaws of course. You decided to schedule a meeting with Seol to go over it and she happily agreed. You were nervous, not because of the paper, but the proximity of the two of you. You two have never had a conversation before and somehow, it felt wrong, like you're touching something that belongs to someone else. You feel that every time you're with Namjoon.
"Of course, I'm glad I could be of used. What can I do for you?"
"Um, I think I just need some advice for this paper."
"Okay, that sounds great. I've read a few of your short responses already from class activities and I am very excited to read this paper. You have a lot of talent." she said.
"Thank you." you said, blushing a little for some reason.
"Alright, let me just read this very quickly." Her voice was smooth and clear. As she read the paper, she began playing with the ends of her hair. Sometimes she would tilt her head, a pen dangling between her fingers. Not knowing what to do, your eyes wandered the room. There was a bookcase behind her with numerous collections of stories. Anything from Harry Potter to Shakespeare. On her walls were movie posters, Star Wars and Marvels. Her desk was pretty plain. Her name plate, a few pencils scattered all around. Your eyes locked on a vase, with dozens of pink roses.
"They're beautiful, aren't they?" Seol asked when she noticed your stare.
"Yes, they're lovely."
"Namjoon sent them. He asked me to meet with him later too. I wonder what's that about." You weren't surprised that he did that but it didn't stop your heart from hurting a little. The small smile still remained on your face. "I'm sorry, it must make you uncomfortable, right?" she asked.
"Pardon?"
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have accepted. I mean, I would feel wrong too if my boyfriend sent flowers to someone else, even if it was just a professor." She gave you an apologetic smile. You were taken aback.
"Boyfriend? What are you talking about?" you awkwardly chuckled.
"Oh, aren't you and Namjoon dating?" she asked. She wasn't joking in any way, her eyes were oblivious. You then realized why he hasn't said anything to her, she really doesn't see the way he looks at her. The look that you would kill to have all for yourself.
"Oh, no. We're just friends." you said, waving your hands in denial.
"I see." her smile fading. "It's just strange."
"What is?"
She sighed, putting the papers flat on the table. "I've known him for a few years now. In my classes, I've never seen him talked to anyone before. Even when I assign partner works, he either stays by himself or he does both shares. I was getting really worried about him. I know he has his group of friends, but he tends to retreat into himself. So that's why I was happy to see him talking and laughing with you during class. Honestly, I've never seen him so genuinely content before. It's nice to see his smile."
"But he smiles a lot when he's with you too." you said. It came out weirdly, Seol gave you a look. "Sorry, I didn't mean it like that-"
"I know exactly what you meant. And to ease your curiosity, I know about his feelings for me." You couldn't hide your gasps. "I realize that my class is never fun, so it was strange to see such a guy taking all of them. I think I asked him about it once, he just said there wasn't anything better. That boy is terrible at hiding his feelings. But I can see that he feels something for you. So that's why I thought you two were..."
"I see. Well to be honest, I often don't know what our relationship is. One day we're at each other's throat and the next he's helping me study."
"You like him right?"
"It doesn't matter. His feelings for you will always be greater. Gravity can't match."
"I think you're underestimating yourself a little." she gave you a reassuring smile. You two moved on from the topic and went to talking about your paper. After an hour or so, she had finished giving you her feedbacks. "I think I should get some more water for these little beauties." She picked up the vase and stared at them. "I think these fit you more. But I might as well just take care of them." As she moved to the door, you noticed that something was wrong immediately. Her face was pale and her legs were trembling. You were about to get up to help her but the vase slipped from her hands and shattered on the floor. Seol's body was also about to land on the floor but you got to her in times.
"Seol!" you yelled out, but she was unconscious. At that moment, Namjoon had walked into the door. He looked at the broken vase and flowers on the floor. His smile disappeared when he saw Seol in your arms. "Namjoon, thank god you're here-"
"What the hell do you do to her?" he yelled. He rushed over to you, but instead of helping you, his arm swung and pushed you aside. "I can't believe you would hurt her like this."
"What are you talking about?" you asked, sounding obviously hurt.
"The other day, you were all and mighty when you gave that speech. How I should chase her and hold her. And here you are, letting your jealousy get the best of you." he spit out. His arms were tight around her. His eyes were glued on her, to make sure she wasn't bleeding or bruising.
"Excuse me? How dare you think I would do that? She fainted. It wasn't my fault. We have to get her to the hospital." You walked closer to them, trying to help him carry her. But he pushed you once again, but this time, you slipped on the water and fell down. A piece of broken glass piercing your hand, blood came gushing out. You yelled out of pain, but he was already gone.
